God you people hate everything. It's almost hard to tell if this is a Disney fan site or a Disney hate site sometimes. :(

No. We're calling out Disney/ABC on false advertising. This was supposed to be "Disneyland 60", and the park barely featured into it!

90% of this "special" took place not at Disneyland, but in a theater somewhere else....and they couldn't even bother to AT LEAST make it the Walt Disney Concert Hall!

She was part of opening day Disney's California Adventure...

Oh! That's right and then she had a movie but, a mermaid evicted her out..

I enjoyed it. Could have been more about Disneyland certainly but I have a feeling that had it been a documentary like many think t should have been nobody would have watched it. They wanted to make some event programming that would appeal to even casual Disney fans, not just hardcore Disneyland fans. We're talking a national broadcast here in a competitive time slot. In that regard they did what they needed to do. None of that is meant for people who use Disney forums in their spare time... It's an ad for people who may not have even known it was Disneylands 60th.

I wasn't expecting a documentary....but something that at least showcased Disneyland a bit. Made it thrilling and fun and actually spent time on the attractions.
For instance: they had Fall Out Boy singing "Wanna Be Like You" from the Jungle Book....why not have them actually performing at the Jungle Cruise and intercut their performance with scenes from the ride?

For example: Here's what Walt Disney World Inside Out did to promote New Tomorrowland.

And here is Disneylands's 35th Anniversary special....featuring Woody Boyd from Cheers reminiscing about the Haunted Mansion.
(special appearance by Charles "Roger Rabbit" Fleischer as the creepy HM Cast Member.)

THAT'S what should have happened for the big 60. Have it be a showcase of the park itself, instead of Dancing with the Stars.

The show felt like a corporate commercial for the park kind of like the Oscars are nothing more than an corporate commercial for the movie industry. The travel DVDs are typically better. The best part was Kermit the Frog singing Rainbow Connection. However, the Frog could have done without the tone deaf girl singing with him. The Star Wars orchestra park was ok. I've seen it done live better.

As for the Star Wars Experience, we saw more drawings but there was no way to tell how being down in the streets would feel. There were no ride or restaurant marquees. It looked like a movie location and not a theme park area. The pictures of the restaurants looked a little cluttered like movie sets and not working theme park areas. The Falcon ride looks like an arcade game. There has to be more too it. I'm guessing Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey type ride. I can't tell what the stromtrooper ride is suppose to be. I guess you are driving through environments looking at AA stromtroopers. Is the ride an upscale Buzz Lightyear shooter? They could have talked a little more about what each ride was. The preview was pretty disappointing.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice had nothing to do with Disneyland and was cut in several places pretty badly. I'm not sure what they were advertising in that part. I fast forwarded past the overly long country song in Radiator Springs. Of course Let it Go had to be in there. I just wish I could see the fountains better.

The Shanghai portion felt like an after thought. It was nice to see the Tron coaster fly by and concept art again but Walt would have shown us something live. If this place opens in four months, they should have had something ready besides concept art from years ago. At least show us portions of the grounds that are complete.

Where the heck was Sandy Duncan?

As others have noted, very little of this had to do with Disneyland.

Much of it was just performances (OF COURSE they're gonna sing "Let It Go"), promotions for upcoming movies, and stupid montages of animated films. I gave up after the fourth montage.
Apparently me and my parents enjoyed the montages when we saw them last night.

Yes, completely unreasonable that people were expecting an infomercial about Disneyland...

What makes that so bad is they had to spend time making it look so hokey. Just the pure Revit models look rather amazing.

What do either of those have to do with Disneyland?
Okay the Zootopia hype has gotten the best of me at this point since it will be out next week.

Totally Agree..Even the 30th anniversary special tied it up with what they were singing...The Pointer Sisters were singing Neutron Dance with the MSEP Floats and TRON Dancers making it now..a NeuTRON Dance...

So if all of those things have been done/seen before what would be the point of doing them again?

Look, I'll be the first one to say that the show wasn't anything to write home about if it sucks (I haven't seen it yet). However, Disney has a long history of producing this kind of TV programming beginning with the slapdash opening day broadcast in 1955 all the way to those boring holiday parade broadcasts on Christmas morning. One of the most disappointing park specials ever produced was the WDW Space Mountain special in 1975. I remember suffering through cornball comedy and cheesy musical numbers featuring Lucy Arnaz (of all people) as a kid only to get a tiny glimpse of the ride in final few minutes of the program. Here it is in case you've never seen it:

Seriously? The title of the "special" is "Disneyland 60," yet it actually has nothing to do with Disneyland or its history through six decades. It's misleading.

Disneyland park was the launching point where the ideas expressed in the prior film works finally had a tangible physical presence, that's the idea behind the whole DisneyParks concept. From that original starting point its only grown in the same place and in different locations and is still part of the locations that attempt to make dreams come true. If it were limited in the fashion that you are espousing, it would only have been a locally televised event in the LA area since the majority of attendance is from the local area.

I'm sure you and I both know this ridiculous statement is not true. Yes, Disneyland sees a lot of attendance from SoCal locals, but it is very much an American icon.

Ridiculous ? Consider the percentage impact that it has on the total revenue of Disney Inc. Its #3 behind #1 WDW MK and Tokyo Disneyland.

Yes, ridiculous.

This information is moot. If Disneyland's place in terms of overall revenue mattered, why has Disney nationally broadcasted or live-streamed other specials, news events, announcements, etc. regarding Disneyland? Why was the 50th, a way more "Disneyland" special than last night's atrocity was, nationally broadcasted? Why was the re-dedication on Disneyland's 60th birthday last year live-streamed for everyone and not just for those of us in Southern California?

Again, Disneyland is an American icon. Whether it brings in more money than Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disney or not doesn't matter. It's the original Disney park, the only one Walt Disney, an American icon as well, in his own right, had a personal hand in and saw to its completion, and it is unique in that regard. These reasons alone will prevent honorary, dedicated specials regarding Disneyland, such as milestone birthdays, from only being televised for Angelenos and other Southern Californians.

I could see a special on the history of In-N-Out Burger being locally televised, but Disneyland? No.
