Disney(World) vs. Disney(land)?

Won't they also view that as a huge problem? This is at least twice in recent memory that Lasseter has threatened to leave the company if he hasn't gotten his way. You either gotta give that guy all the power or push him out somehow. You can't depend so much on a guy that will stomp his feet and take his ball home whenever he doesn't get what he wants.

John doesn't want all the power, nor is he equipped to run a company like Disney.

He just wants the company running with some attention paid to the things that made Disney what it once was and, some people believe, can be again.

Oh, and when a guy makes the amount of both critically acclaimed and financially successful product that John has overseen, you listen when he speaks because chances are he knows what he is talking about.

Oh certainly I would listen to him. The two things now I've heard him threaten to quit over have been preserving the budget for Carsland and getting Bob Iger out, and I'm good with both of those. I'm just trying to get inside the heads of the board of directors; I think they would view somebody like Lasseter as unstable and a problem they need to fix somehow.

One of those is very likely as part of DL's upcoming massive T-land project.

So they're definitely doing a T-land project? Any details? I haven't kept up much with DL stuff recently

Also, do you think Disney as a company should dump the TV networks and focus more on the key parts of what everyone knows as Disney (movies, theme parks)

Nah, JL is viewed as many things: creative, quirky, a perfectionist ... unstable wouldn't be one of those words.

I guess I was just clutching my Figment plush, buying a bundle of Vinylmation figures on ebay for $5, and feeling nostalgic for that magical discussion.

I know ... those were the days, my friend ... we thought they'd never end ... we'd sing and dance ... and then some Spirit used the words 'child' and 'exploitation' and Disney Social Media together and I hear they have tumbleweeds blowing across their boards since.

I wonder when the next issues of Tales from the LP is coming out ... it's only been two plus years since the last!

well, that's the word from right up to the top folks in Anaheim and I'd guess they're reputable sources ... I know some basic details and not going to say more beyond there will be a massive amount of old DL infrustructure going away for this.

Absolutely not. ESPN is the biggest money-maker in Disney's portfolio. After years of playing second fiddle to Nickelodeon, Disney Channel is wiping the floor with them. ... Even ABC ... they are in the middle, but network TV is cyclical and they are doing better in many areas (GMA for instance) and I like what they do with primetime. They take chances as opposed to top dog CBS, which has maybe 3-4 shows I can watch. ABC tries a bit of everything, some hit, some fail ... but I like their programming strategy because at some point there are only so many miles left in crime procedurals and when they go, CBS has nothing behind them. I'd rather watch a network that has everything from The Middle to Modern Family to Once Upon a Time to Revenge to Don't Trust the B- in Apt 23 to Grey's Anatomy and new stuff that looks interesting like 666 Park Avenue. I wish their theme parks took the chances (even with simply entertainment) that ABC does.

Except that what John wants is usually the right thing.

ABC and other miscellaneous affiliates I would like them to dump. Disney Channel should be the "DISNEY" Channel again not the pre-teen flavor of the month channel. ESPN makes too much money for them to dump. A quick question to 74 about the "Spirited change", will this mean the departure of all that is left of Eisner's "Stategic Planning" lieutenants?

A question about the upcoming "Spirited Change" if you will '74. Will this change include maintenance that we all know that needs to be done? The bad show stuff especially like the Yeti, Splash, and their broken down cousins. Thanks!

Any links to that intriguing thread?

Yes ESPN makes a boatload mainly because how expensive it is to have it. And 74 I know the only reason you are going to watch 666 Park Ave. is because the guy from lost is on it :)

Well its been clear for ages that its needed a lot of help...I hope we get specifics soon and some concept artwork.

If I was to take a wild guess, I'd say the Innoventions building is going to get the wrecking ball....Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear probably aren't going anywhere, maybe a speedway removal along with the peoplemover tracks.

There we go.
Autopia is actually connected to the Monorail and the Subs, so I'm thinking they may not be going anywhere. I'm 99.9% sure Innoventions is going bye-bye, though.

Yes, Al Lutz has said as much. Hopefully though, it will get plussed at WDW.
