Disney Wonder will be based in Los Angeles!

If Disney wanted to go LA to Hawaii, wouldn't they just stop in Ensenada first like most cruises to Hawaii do? I think that solves the problem.

Could be, it does seem that the article is emphasizing on cruises just within Hawaii.

Yes, I believe Norwegian is the only cruiseline with inter-island Hawaiian cruises. Other cruiselines will sail to Hawaii, but they can't start in Hawaii and stay in Hawaii.

I think DCL cruising from LA to Hawaii, with a stop in a foreign port, and the same thing in reverse is a real possibility. That would be a great Land and Sea package combined with their DVC property. It would be a long package, but what's wrong with that?

Well, all of the Mediterranean cruises were 10-11 nights, so I suppose there might be viability for packages of a similar length out of Los Angeles. Conceivably they might even be able to do something like 3 nights at Disneyland, 5 nights at sea, and three nights at Disney's Really Polynesian Resort, or some such combination. I'm assuming a ship could make it from L.A. to a foreign stop to Hawaii within 5 or 6 days.

Most cruises to Hawaii are more like 10-11 nights, but I don't know how fast they could get there if they were pushing it.

But hey, the vacation you're describing sounds awesome to me!

Yeah, I know I'd book a vacation like that in a heartbeat. What would be an absolute dream cruise for me would be a repositioning cruise from Los Angeles to Tokyo, with a Disneyland-Cruise-Tokyo Disney vacation. Heck, theoretically, if Disney really wanted to, they could do the real World Cruise, one big one circumnavigating the globe to all five Disney destinations. I think there would actually be enough people who'd actually pay for that.

Absolutely there would be. On my last Disney cruise there was a Norwegian boat docked in Port Canaveral next to us. They were leaving for a 39 day cruise. 39 days!!

Wow that is a very long time. Imagine how much that would cost

That would be perfect trip for me. I been thinking about a really great trip to take my daughter when she turns 16. I had been thinking either a disney cruise or hawaii and this would be perfect for us. And going to disneyland on top of it would be the icing on the cake because we never been there  It would be the best Sweet 16 ever way better than a party I think

Now I suppose it is possible that they might be building one or both of the new ships with Alaska in mind, to have the Wonder do Mexico and the new one do Alaska.

I believe the 2 new ships are committed to Port Canaveral for a few years, especially since they are re-engineering the port to handle both ships - so if this is the plan, it won't be for quite a few years.

I'll second basing the Disney Magic in NYC. Norwegian does very well with their 7 day cruises to Port Canaveral, Key West, Nassau, and back to NY.

I still think that one of the new ships might have a DVC floor on it.

New ships

The reason the disney wonder is moving to LA is because they're making room for 2 new ships they 're making that r supposed to set sail in 2011

Correct! The 2 new ships, in 2011 and 2012, will be based in Port Canaveral for a few years per their new agreement with the Port.

I wonder what will happen with the Disney Magic?

I wonder too! :) Three ships sailing out of Port Canaveral would be a lot. Not to mention, no one is going to want to sail the on the Magic when they can sail the same itinerary on a new ship.

They could go with 5/4/5 itineraries, to mix it up, but the 4 days would still have trouble competing.

So they've almost got to move it somewhere. But where? Perhaps they'll just give one of the ships special itineraries in the summer (like the Mediterranean) but they would still have a problem for most of the year.

I would love to know these answers.:D

I think the new ships will be used for the set 7 day, 4 day, and 3 day trips, while the Magic will be used for Europe and longer tours

I think you are partly right. I just don't know where they'll base the Magic.

There are rumors floating around about one of the new ships having a couple of DVC decks too.

As a former DCL Crew Purser Hawaii will probably a long time coming IMHO. There is foreign island near Hawaii, but it would take nearly three days out of the voyage to get there and back. Also, when you have an American-flagged vessel, you also need to have mostly American crew members for labor laws. As of March 08 (when I left), the Wonder had about 1000 crew members and only 50 were Americans. It's really hard to hire Americans for the role. They do not want to work 70-90 hours a week with no time off, no matter where you go. That's why I'm back in the states now.

They way cruise lines work out of Port LA is that they will sail to Mexico in the winter and spring months and then sail to Alaska in the Summer and Fall months. That way, you get the best weather of both seasons. Keep an eye out for repositioning from LA to Seatle or Vancouver for it as well. LA to Alaska is just to far!

Are the Wonder and the Magic properly equipped for Alaskan cruises?

Also, who said they would be American-flagged vessels?
