I think the new ships will be used for the set 7 day, 4 day, and 3 day trips, while the Magic will be used for Europe and longer tours

That is what the rumors where when the ships were announced. There is more need for smaller cruise simply because they are cheeper and more people can afford them. The Magic IMHO will end up in Europe with other specialty voyages.

I think you are partly right. I just don't know where they'll base the Magic.

There are rumors floating around about one of the new ships having a couple of DVC decks too.

There was talk of increases the number of Concierge rooms and actually have a lounge and office for the crew on the deck. The Concierge staff gets really tired from running up the stairs from deck 3 to deck 8!

Are the Wonder and the Magic properly equipped for Alaskan cruises?

Also, who said they would be American-flagged vessels?

I didn't even think about equipment for Alaskan cruises, but I know my parents have been on older ships with NCL and sailed Alaska several times.

The American-flagged vessel would be for a Hawaii-only cruise. The US laws are just really tough. I looked at "jumping ship" and going to the NCL American-flagged vessel, but it was alot more work to do!

I can also see trans-pacific cruises in the future.

with a so many day cruise to Hawaii. then a so many day cruise to tokyo oh wait, what is in tokyo? Tokyo Disneyland. then maybe some itineraries there and then back to hawaii and LA

Seeing as I'm about to move an hour away from Los Angeles, I don't think I could be any happier about this news! Now it's gonna kill me to wait all the way till 2011!

If the two new ships work out of the port and do 7, 4, and 3 days trips, they would only be in port 3 days a week. That would leave plenty of days open for the Magic to make long trips and stag there for cross Atlantic as is going to happen next year. The same can be said with the Disney Island. It is presently under used do to only three or four visit a month. The Magic can fill empty port and island visits without additional port cost. Disney needs three ships in the Atlantic and one in LA at this time.
