I'm planning on being there 10/30-11/6 at All Star Movies (renovated room requested). I got a 10-day park hopper that I'm going to upgrade to an annual pass since I'll be back in February '19 for the Princess half. No dining plan for me

@RunningKoen I am a huge eater too, three full meals. But I have always felt that the Dining Plan is more expensive and restrictive than paying a la carte. For instance, I can hit a spot, like Nomad Lounge or Brown Derby (2 of my favs) and order a bunch of appetizers to make a meal. This is not an option on the Dining Plan as everything is so regimented with appetizers and entrees.

I prefer the freedom.

Contacted them. Is the memory maker part of their deal?

Checked into it. An annual pass might even be cheaper. How 'select' is that 20% merchandise and dining?
Does it include expo material? Some or most restaurants (I get that the exclusive ones wont be 20% off)?

Yes, it includes Disney Expo metchandise. But not other vendors.

If you do the dining plan, the AP discount may cover items not included on the dining plan.

AP includes photopass.

Dining Plan works well for me (big eater) certainly if it is part of deal with hotel and tickets. So far, no special deal found yet.

Park tickets are a mess though, any discount options? I see the 14 day for the price of 7 days special but thats still as expensive as buying for 4 days ...
Buying park tickets combined with hotel gives me FP+ and memory maker, but it almost 70% of what the hotel room cost .. Hmm Hmm.

Skip the dining plan. Especially if you will be there during F&W and think you might try that, the dining plan really isn't worth it. And even if you find free dining, a discount on your room may be a better deal for a party of one (presuming you are traveling solo). Even if you eat alot (or especially if you eat alot) unless you eat exactly to the plan, you won't save money.

Tickets only tend to get cheaper (per day) as you buy more days. The discounts on a shorter stay ticket are usually minimal. Now Europe (UK specifically) usually have access to amazing ticket deals we can't get in the US, but as you indicate they usually reflect a extended multi week trip. The US based resellers will usually save you $30-40 or so on a 3/4 ticket ticket over gate prices.

Note that the AP discpunts on food and merchandise can disappear at any time. I wouldn't recommend getting an AP unless (a) it's cheaper than the tickets you are considering or (b) you will visit again within a year. You will get AP discpunts on rooms, but adding the dining plan is a challenge. I agree with Don, the DDP is too restrictive. Look at the menus of the restaurants you think you'd want to eat in, price out a meal and then compare to the daily cost of the DDP. You're probably going to want the regular dining plan (1 table service, 1 quick service and snacks oerday) at the least.

Your race registration includes photopass, so no memory maker needs to be purchased.

As of when? Unless this is part of a special packaged booked through runDisney registration doesn't include Photopass downloads. Your bib does serve as the Photopass card so the photos get tagged that way, but you still need to either have an AP/Memory Maker, or pay per download/print.

The 20% off merchandise is only at WDW O/O locations. And the dining has dropped back down to 10% as some TS locations, but next to no CS locations.

How would it be cheaper? If you are going to do multiple trips in a year, then maybe. But a 4 day ticket (no hopping) can be found for under $370 USD, while the cheapest AP you could get is closer to $900 USD right now. The breakeven point on an AP is usually around 10-11 days, so multiple trips would need to be around that long.

I've never had a problem downloading race photos. But I do have an AP

@LAKid53 Turns out the princess date are perfect to me. It's way easier and probably even cheaper to do a 7/8 day trip to WDW for Princesses instead of Dopey '19.

And with Princess causing no trouble with my work, it's possible to take a leave for Wine & Dine. Therefore Im checking the W&D '18 options.

The combination would make the AP worth it, certainly if there's an AP discount on the room for Princesses. ;-)

It would however mean that I'd drop the marathon and go for two 36KM weekends.
I want a WDW race in 2019, for sure. Need to think if and how I'm gonna combine that with W&D '18.
Pro: it would give me two years of Castle to Chateau, which is basicly the reason for all this planning.
Con: no marathon.

@dreamfinder I'm going to WDW in '19 for sure, so that would make an AP cheaper ;-)

Fantastic! So we'll get to do both 2018 W&D and 2019 Princess. Maybe I can convince @Swissmiss to do the 2019 Marathon Half Marathon.
