Calling GoFundMe....

Would such a thing have any change of raising money? I have little to no experience with GoFundMe but it would be insane of others sponsored my W&D trip. But hey, stranger things have happened.

@RunningKoen - I'm only pushing DLP - I've done my US race and will forward to a leisurely 3 hour train ride in September and no jet lag 😉.

You're still free to sponsor.I'll send you the GoFundMe page ;-)
Just kidding. But seriously, DLP is worth the push! @LAKid53 !

I've never set up a GoFundMe page, so I don't know what the restrictions would be. But if it's doable, woukd your students help send their teacher to WDW?

If I mention that there wont be any lessons from me for a week, I'm quite sure I can do every week for the next few years ;) They'll gladly donate for that.

There are already campaings on GoFundMe for runDisney. None of them are rather succesfull. Only the 'sad story' ones go above the 100 dollar mark

Does anyone have an idea of the cost for this? I'm on rundisney.com and it's not showing registration fees. I'm interested in doing all 3 races (5k, 10k & half). Thanks!

Last year the two-course challenge (10K/Half) was $340 + Active.com fees. I didn't do the 5K so I'll let someone else chime in on that cost.

I bought new running shoes this weekend and I'm signed up for 2 5k races in the next few months - gotta start somewhere, right?? I'm super excited! Once I get my tax return I'm putting my deposit down on a vacation package for 10/30-11/6 :D :D :D

I just figured out the W&D has a different course for the half than princesses (AK, HS en world Showcase instead of just MK).
What are your opinions about the courses? And the party afterwards (cost/pro's/con's).

How's the 5K? Nice addition or not a problem to miss out on it?

Not getting Castle to Chateau this year is bothering me so much. So yet again, after each race weekend, I'm reviving my options to fit in another runDisney race.

Unlike all the other 5Ks that run solely in Epcot, it was nice running in DAK, especially Pandora before sunrise. And no crowds, other than runners. Loved it.

Not sure if DHS will remain on the course. Princess 10K was run from Epcot to Osceola Parkway to WS to Boardwalk back to Epcot. While a boring route, not running the congested nightmare that is DHS to the Boardwalk was appreciated. Seeing the construction that is the DHS parking lot makes me think that park is off the course until construction is completed. It was such a short trip through DHS as it is, coming in by Tower of Terror to just run down Sunset to Hollywood, exit the park and over to the Boardwalk.

The party has a great vibe. Even CMs were getting into the mood. Lots of drinking, lots of music and almost all rides open and are walk on, except for Frozen. Plus you get a $15 gift card to party with.

So you're thinking of doing W&D next year?

@LAKid53 if I recall correctly, the full marathon route at DHS is just as short. Enter backstage at ToT, taking the boulevard toward the exit and into the boardwalk. I'm usually in the front corrals, never had problems with congested courses.

When is the party? is it a ticketed event, or only for the runners?

Im aiming for this year. I suddenly have 5 days of payed leave and tons of goodwill :)

The party is the evening of the Half, so Sunday. If you register for the Half, your registration includes a ticket for the party. Otherwise, you have to purchase one. And anyone can attend, runners and family/friends/supporters. The party officially starts at 9:00PM (or is it 10?) and ends at midnight or 1 am. You can enter early with your party ticket - there's a separate entry area and you are given a wristband. I usually wander around for a few hours, use my $15 for some alcohol, rides a couple of rides and head back to my resort.

It would be awesome if you could run in this year's race.

The party is after Epcot closing. Half runners get a ticket with registration. I've bought extra tickets for friends and family and don't recall any kind of verification.

When W&D was at night, it was a great event. It was easy to do as a quick weekend trip (not really a factor for an international trip), had a really unique atmosphere, attracted a set of like-minded runners, had a great course, and was generally a lot of fun. Going straight from the race to the afterparty was a blast, and gave an extra incentive to finish faster, to get more time at the party.

With the move to the mornings, it really lost a lot of what made it feel special. Instead of having the 5K Saturday morning and the Half Saturday evening, the races are now stretched out over 3 days. With everything so spread out, runners tend to get lost in the mix of regular park guests that weekend; it's a fairly busy time of year, especially at Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival

I haven't done the 5K since the previous version when it was the same day as the Half, but I thought it was fun. I'm not a huge fan of 5Ks, so I wouldn't want to make a special effort just for it, but if you really like untimed 5Ks you'd probably have a good time

The course is essentially the second half of the marathon, without WWOS. It's not a bad course, but it's also not the greatest. Other than running through Pandora, there's really nothing you'll see along the way that you wouldn't see during the marathon.

The afterparty was a total bust for me. After spending all day in the park, there really wasn't a ton that I wanted to do during the extra hours. Most of the attractions were closed, so it was just the F&W booths, some minor entertainment, and a couple rides. It wasn't bad, but there wasn't much to make it better than normal park hours beyond the additional time; I didn't think it was worth the extra night in a hotel and extra time off work just to experience that.

In general, I think W&D's current format is fine. There's nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn't really have that extra pop that makes all the other weekends feel unique. It felt like a local event that happened to be at Disney, rather than something that Disney put on themselves. It's particularly disappointing, knowing how great the old format was.

For me, I would rather run the Star Wars races again, and I'm not even a particular fan of SW. I know it's coming up soon (especially for an international trip), but registration is still open for both the Half & Challenge. The courses are the same as W&D, but the atmosphere was a lot more exciting and felt like Disney was really putting effort into it

The party sounds amazing, I've liked Epcot the most out of all the parks.

Trainingwise, the 36K wouldn't be a problem, because Paris is 5 weeks before it.

The planning will be crucial. I checked the dates of Princess '19. Not doing Dopey but Princess in '19 creates the possibility to get free for W&D '18. Damn damn damn.
Also need to get more details of my house. And wait for my upcoming half and full marathon.

Edit: about starwars: I have never even seen a movie, so not really into it. Also, Im to late to register for the kessel run challenge and PoT deadline. Last corral isnt motivating me, combined with high priced plane tickets because Im booking late.

If you have to decide between 2018 Star Wars and 2019 Princess, go with Princess. I'm doing SW in two months and plan on doing W&D to finish 2018 and all the 2019 races - just the Half during Marathon weekend, lol. I will be perfect for the SW 10k in 2020, so that's definitely going to be on my calendar.

Kessel is sold out.
