Which has better parks? I've never been to Universal or Islands of Adventure but I plan to some time. I just wanna know which parks are better to see-the Disney parks or Universal parks.

Asking that question on a Disney board is kind of like asking Steve Jobs if he prefers PC's over Mac's.

This is just my opinion but US and IOA have more over the top thrilling rides but Disney is much more immersivley themed.

You really can't compare them that way. They offer different things. Universal seems to be geared for the not-so-young (over, say 7-8 years). Some of the rides at Universal are as good or better than anything at WDW. Spiderman for instance and for 3-D, the Terminator. Also, IOA has 2 major coasters where WDW does not. But Disney has the "magic" which Universal does not.

I highly recommend a visit to Universal. We go there more often the WDW mainly due to time and cost constraints.

When I go back to Orlando, I want to spend at least a week (or two) at Disney, but only two or three days at Universal.
Universal is not nearly as big as Disney, so it can mostly be seen in about two full days. Other than that, the biggest difference to me is that Uni. doesn't have the nostalgia and "Wow, the world is a great place to be" feelings.
That said Universal's definitely still worth a visit, even if you decide not to come back. Go to www.universalorlando.com and see what you think. Then if still have questions come back here and ask them.

I have 2 boys (8 and 11) and they like Universal and IOA better because they say its more of a "boys park" there are no princesses and fairytale castles.

There's only one other place that is making a product anywhere near as great as Disney, and that's Universal. No where else are there as immmersive environments and unique ways of integrating story and theme into attractions. Not six flags, not Cedar Fair, not even Sea World. Just Disney and Universal. So as long as we are all fans of this kind of stuff, why not take as much as we can get? I'll take 'em both.

So, yeah, go to Universal when you get a chance. Its fun.

Honestly, this thread should end now. Go to both, develop your OWN personal opinion. Comparing Universal and Disney is a very unfair question that could spark a never-ending debate. Both have their positives and negatives.

This is actually one of the more enlightened Disney vs. Universal discussions I've seen on this board...

Well said Kat.

Disney and Universal both have good points and they both have negatives. That said, both facilities are in another league when compared to the rest of the industry. Go to both, you won't be disappointed with either.

If you are picking a winner, Disney is the undefeated champion of Central Florida since 1971, and that vote is with dollars and attendance numbers in the parks.

That said, Central Florida is big enough for both, and I enjoy many aspects of the Universal parks.

Save a few extra dollars and try both, then spend your time and money doing what you like the best.

I can't pick favorites, Universal DOES have a lot of advantages over Disney and they really kicked up the game when they opened IOA, its definitely worth a visit. There are a lot of experiences you just can't find at Disney. The food is also much better IMO at Universal, plus the parks and CityWalk are so close together, and often less busy, so it's more relaxing

This is how I personally rate the local parks:

1. MK
2. IOA
3. EPCOT
4. USF
5. DHS
6. Sea World
7. Animal Kingdom

I go to Islands of Adventure for thrill rides, nothing more. I quite like the themeing of the place but IMO its nothing compared to Disney.

I would say that everyone should visit the parks though, IoA is especially well made as a park.
