Disney to Reveal Ambitious Star Wars Plans

I hope they just create quality rides and experiences so that even if you are not a huge Star Wars fan, you can appreciate the theming and thrill of the new land =)

Me, too! I am a Star Wars fan (but not an Avatar fan), so I'm thinking the same thing about what they're building in the AK. At the end of the day, it's nice to see WDW DOING something, ADDING something -- not simply "reimagining" or shuttering older attractions, but creating entirely new lands and experiences.

I agree, Disney is building, from the ground up, new stuff. May not be what WE would ultimately choose, but most people don't really care. Theme and appropriateness aside, Avatar could turn into a stunning attraction. Star Wars (whenever that gets going) will be as near a guarantee of success as you can get. So I'm looking forward to see what we get. I know the budget can get slashed, rides deleted, attractions watered down, but I have no control over those things, so if it turns out to be an enjoyable, fun escape, then I'm in.

At least make them prove it first, before you give them credit for a job well done. They've long since lost the presumption of awesomeness -- we know, based on CarsLand, and expansions in TDS & HKDL that they can do great work when they feel like it, but we've also seen way too much value engineering to assume that anything they do in Florida will be first rate.

Agreed, it's why I stated that IF it turns out well, then I'll be a happy participant. The track record hasn't been much to speak of lately, but I have, and will, continue to be an optimist. I choose to believe, however foolish it may seem, that eventually the direction will change for the better. I'd rather look forward to the possibility of something wonderful than to go ahead and concede that all is lost. Just my take on WDW and life in general.

Well NFL is lacking in the Attraction department, this is true, but the theming is pretty damn good. That much Disney has not lost, you can guarantee the theming will be fantastic. The attractions, yet to be determined IMO.

NFL is lacking in attractions? Belle, Mermaid, and Mine Train? As an expansion to an already ride-heavy land?

I was referring to E-Ticket type attractions...for an entire land Remake I don't think you can make the case that any of those attractions you mentioned are E-tickets. 7DMT comes real close, I do like it, but the simple fact that it's over before you blink makes it feel like it is missing something, like they cut it short for some reason. Anyhow, overall I liked the NFL, but yea, my reaction after visiting MK twice since NFL completed is that it is lacking in quality attractions. Mermaid is meh, Belle is nice for a M&G, and 7DMT is underwhelming.

I thought the point of NFL was more to enhance the Castle area. It was never intended to be a new gate or anything. I prefer it to Toonland, anyway.

It was never a standalone land, nor has Fantasyland ever been home to E-ticket attractions (by today's standards).

It was to add attractions and capacity to the Magic Kingdom...
Which it did.

The only thing added with NFL was a restaurant. The 2 attractions they put in replaced rides, so all they really did was bring back the capacity from the closing of 20K. Like @Bocabear said, NFL was to add capacity to the park, but it really didn't.

The new rides are much better than the ones that they replaced.

I'm not the biggest fan on the NFL, but that is mostly because I expected more for the amount of money they (supposedly) spent on it.

Which it did.

It netted 1 attraction, lots of concrete, poor forced perspective, and a restaurant. Getting more people in an already overcrowded park with little more to do is not a win. The urbanizing of the HUB area is adding more capacity to the park's too. Is the concrete, fake grass, lack of shade, and destruction of the castle reveal from Main Street worth packing more people into an overcrowded park with no new attractions to occupy people a win for guests? I guess after standing/sitting in the new hub area to hold your place for fireworks for a few hours is the win?

Back to topic:

Star Wars area only needs to be well themed to be considered sucessful? So if we keep the same attraction count at DHS that was there last year ( prior to the attractions lost for what may be coming) that is successful?

I am very skeptical of the "new" things being added in all areas of DHS. Themeing off the shelf carnival rides like the garbage at DCA 1.0 and the Chester/Hester garbage at AK is not a win for park guests. Original attractions are needed. DHS or whatever it's rebranded in the future will still be a half day park if a concerted effort is not made to bulk up the attractions count and deliver the "Old Disney Quality" in all of it's new offerings.

Let's keep a wait and see attitude when it comes to DHS and the Star Wars development that is not even out of planning yet.
