They do this already at golden oak, doesn’t seem crazy they’d do it here too
True, but Golden Oak is within WDW, where there is no shortage of resources. One of the issues they ran into with the Disney Store was that some stores operated like islands (their own company) and there were standards that were not being met in terms of both service/branding and HR.

You can't operate like an island when you have 65,000+ people working at/near the same site, like at Golden Oak/WDW... too many eyes and ears.

From the website: "Programming will require payment of dues and/or fees and be subject to additional terms and conditions." What programming?

Extra Magic Hours and VIP cabanas at the neighborhood pool?

Reservations to stand on the sidewalk in front of their houses to watch the neighborhood golf cart parade on the Fourth of July?

Premium parking in residents' own driveways?

Lightning Lane™ Amazon deliveries?
Programming. You know, things that consumers will be programmed to say, like “Disney is great!”, “let’s give all our money to Disney”, “Bob is a genius!”, “Hair is overrated”. Things like that.

Seems like a good way to diversify the parks and resorts segment with something that will still make money regardless of public health policy

Yep. There is a lot about this plan that aligns with what I have previously said about their moving away from the centralized "resort" concept and back into something closer to regional entertainment. The plans to significantly reduce attendance at the parks and resorts, the DisneylandForward concept, even moving WDI to a state with lots of disposable land... all seems part of the same plan.

So, no mention of "Celebration"
You know that... Master Planned, "Disney" community.. that....

Honestly, I hope no one gets sucked into buying these.
There track record is NOT good when it comes to this stuff.
This looks to be quite different to Celebration. Celebration was planned by Disney, but it was always the long term plan for the company to sell it off for lack of better terms. This new venture looks more to be a Golden Oak for “regular” people.

Disney always had to step away from Celebration because of legal issues with developers controlling associations of land owners when they no longer own the land. That’s going to apply in a variety of circumstances that can change.

To me, this just comes across as an opportunity for Disney to charge a consulting and designing fee, and maybe a regular licensing fee to the HOA for use of the "Storyliving by Disney" mark?
That’s possible too, will be interesting to see who owns/operates it. Saying that, this is getting back to the times when WED used to design things for the real world in addition to the theme parks.
