Probably because it is a Reedy Creek project, so that Disney can (justifiably) dodge the taxes involved in building these improvements.

Actually $85 Million for 6000 spaces is not a bad price after a brief comparison of other parking garage costs per space.
That still did not answer the question...Has it been confirmed and if so, where?

I don't think the ramp extension (that's what it is, an extension of the 536/Epcot ramp, not a new ramp) will be "announced" by Disney at all, or if it is it will be late in the game. It will be a RCID project with Disney "contributing," so the best things to look for would be whatever kind of documents and procedures that Orange County goes through for other I-4 construction projects.

Yes, I know that, I'm just saying that a ramp extension isn't exactly "press conference material" so I wouldn't expect it to be announced. Parking garages may be infrastructure, but considering the familiarity of the transportation/traffic/parking issues at DTD by both locals and tourists, that is something worth including in the announcement.

To answer that question, you have to ask "Did Disney install moving sidewalks in CA for when they built garages for the project that included DCA 1.0, the DLR hotels, and DTD?"

They could have paved the lake over, like they did for the 20K LutS Lagoon in order to create FLE.

The lake is a form of transportation, for a few hotels to DTD and to get around DTD. I don't think they would pave over it to build a parking lot. Talk about how ugly that would be for Saratoga Springs room views lol

Parking at DTD is a madhouse sometimes so I'm glad they are addressing this and building the parking garages. I'm anxious to see how everything looks when it's all said and done because it looks good from the drawings (doesn't everything though )

I am interested in learning what the garages will look like from the DTD shops and across the lake at SSR. Universal's garages are unsightly but at least they are far removed from the theme parks, not really noticeable. I wonder what a 3-or-4 story parking behemoth is going to looking like while strolling through DTD. I'm sure Disney is taking it into consideration but inquiring minds want to know!

Per Jason Garcia and the Orlando Sentinel, the $85 Million will be paid for by the RCID & not WDW. They won't have to pay sales tax on the construction material that was AS WELL AS keeping the capital expenditure off the WDW books.
