AH-HA! Finally!
Someone spotted George today at Saratoga Springs.
They even got some video!

Oh....wait....
Interesting choice to go with an animated gif as opposed to a stationary image.

@Longhairbear - This is exactly the kind of stuff that would easily make me part with my money. Things like that seem like (to me, anyway) such an obvious no brainer. I would love to this type of merchandise or even replicated in diecast. Geek rant over, I just had to voice my support.

You are probably right that most people don't care or even know about the backstory. I think they mostly use the story to help guide the overall theming of the areas not as an attempt to necessarily tell people a story. I still prefer some theme (even if its not historically accurate) to the area over a generic mall, but again that's just my opinion and I may be in the minority.
I think there's plenty of grey area between "theme/story" and "generic mall," though, and that's the space in which the Disney Village Marketplace (showing my age) existed spectacularly. It wouldn't make for buzzworthy concept art, but if you start from a place of "let's create an experience that people can't get anywhere else," you don't need an elaborate backstory to fill that in. Just fill restaurants and bars with excellent food/drink, and reject chain stores in favor of unusual retail shops and you've got a killer start.

@WDW1974 It is well established that this whole thing feels...weird....but what do you make of the fact that Disney buried their own blog announcement under three very minor stories released the same day?

Yeah that's Wolber, Meg and Staggs for sure. I can't place the other two. (Doesn't look like Eric J. to me, though.)

I don't think Eric was there.

Again, you'd have thought one of the social media whores might have noted that Meg was there and Bruce and, perhaps, even TALKED to them. That is what reporting is all about. It isn't about doing what your PR handler tells you to do ... oh wait, that's REAL reporters. Nevermind.

So do you actually know what is going on with George and are hinting at something with all these "where is George posts"? Or are you really questioning it along with the rest of us?

I'm being told a lot of different things, and since much of it conflicts with other nuggets ... well, I just don't feel comfortable placing it out there.

I do know George is staying in the shadows on purpose.

I can only speculate. I KNOW they were planning on hooking a big fish for this announcement and failed, which is why it was pushed back. Maybe they wanted to downplay it because they announced almost nothing at this press conference, no matter how they (or fans) try and spin it.

Anything else? ... Well, I found Tom Staggs cavalier attitude (and Disney's in general) toward the leaking of information to a fan site to be odd at best, unless he supports leaking stuff to the fan community to gauge drool cover.

I find a lot of things odd involving how TWDC is operating in regard to WDW these days ...

Thats probably the most intrigueing news I have heard about WDW in some time. The question is WHY? Why wouldnt the nonanouncement be the perfect time to roll out the big cheese? WHY hasnt the Pomp and Circumstance music played for George....WHY? This is not the usaual MO for Disney. This is very interesting......interesting indeed.

He had little to do with the Disney Springs development so I am sure most in this situation would not want to be seen grabbing someone else's spotlight.

Much ado about nothing.
