Disney Springs development to bring massive expansion to Buena Vista Drive

Anyone know if any of the new elevated structures in the westside shopping area will be climbable? On my last visit a few weeks ago they just seemed silly. In the concept art I assumed they would be additional walkways or space for seating. I really do not dig these random sections that just seem to get in the way.
no, they wont be accessible

originally the section by the food truck park was going to have stairs and an elevator, but those plans were scrapped.

most likely due to some type of legal/safety issues.

That is disappointing, I just don't see them as anything more than in the way.

The high line things? The plans to have seating on top of them had been axed. At least near the food trucks. They appear to be just for decoration at this point.

They're called theme elements. There are a ton of things around Disney that aren't "required" but make Disney special. If you think about it, no "theme" is required, but we all love it. I'm a bit surprised as to how many people say they shouldn't be there when they don't hurt anything or even take up very much walking space. Yet they do provide seating walls (much needed) and shade (also much needed). The main reason they're there is to add to the overall feel that the area built-up over time and an elevated train trestle was part of that. You can see tracks embedded into the pavement up on the old PI section as well.

Honestly, I think they're pretty awesome. Yeah I wish the tops of them were finished a bit more and I also wish you could go up on top. But, the themed element they add PLUS seating and shade more than makes them a valid element of Disney Springs.

I realized there was another page after I responded. I think it would have been cool to have seating on top. "Cool" like Fonzie not temperature. It would have been hot as hell up there.

well the wider the lift straps were apart, the more stable the load... so if it was rigged properly, should not have been a problem for the lift itself, now travelling with the pick had to have been the brutal part. anyone seen a video?

Well where they had the bridge staged off on the side of the road the crane probably just had to turn 90º and set it down. If they had to move it was probably only a few feet max which could be done with the boom I would think.

Photo update as of Saturday, Apr 4. The support structure for the future elevated crosswalk over Buena Vista Drive next to Once Upon A Toy is progressing. This view, with Once Upon A Toy on the right, shows that the access point will drop guests in front of the water fountain play area. The road intersection is in the background, beyond the construction fence.

I wonder if Disney realized that idiotic teenagers would camp out up there, while tossing things down on the unsuspecting crowd walking below? Kinda what eventually happened with the Skyway at MK. I used to LOVE that ride!

As others have pointed out there are plenty of other places around WDW where you could throw things at people so I don't think that is it. I think the most likely issue is crowd control. For safety reasons you would need to control how many people were up there which would require at least one full time CM to monitor it.

Good point! I hadn't thought about that aspect.
