Disney Springs construction begins

You go to DTD on a Sat. night. Everything about it was miserable/ridiculous. There is no excuse for the situation that exists except incompetent and inaction on TDO's part. They have a real issue that there is no answer for but 18 months of giving them a pass because of blind loyalty.

I have always had a horrible time on Friday and Saturday nights at DTD. The security closes off parking lots that obviously have spots in them. Every time I get to a lot with a cone in front of it I will still scan the lot to see if I can find an open space. If it does then my wife will get out and move the cone, or I run it over. Closing off the lots does absolutely nothing but pi**es people off. I ran over a cone recently to get into a parking lot that had at least 4 visible open spots from the road. As we pulled in I found a total of 11 open spots. Wth is that about? They should keep them open and allow people to find a spot as they can. They aren't helping anything.

To ease things I always try to park as close to Cirque as I can and take the boat to the Marketplace. This last trip we parked, got out, and walked to the dock only to be told that they are not running the boat anymore that day. :banghead: We drove back to the other end and found those 11 open spots closed off by cones.

I may be the only one here, but I certainly miss PI. It was nice to be able to have a place to cut loose on vacation. Not to mention the fact that I could shop, eat, and then go out for dancing with my friends.

It would have continued to work if they had kept it closed instead of opening it to anyone that wanted to walk through. That and made sure that those who were inebriated did not stagger off into the other parts of DTD.

It's extremely crowded on any night. Even in the slower parts of the year. As an Orlando resident, I can see the value in an always busy DTD.

They are doing something about it. They're building a parking garage & adding more pedestrian friendly walkways.

Oh yes! I spent many nights as a CM roaming the streets of PI and it amazed me how many people brought their kids through there. I always wondered why they didn't keep it closed off.

Interesting "possible" news...wasn't there a sketch of some cars in the water around Disney Springs? I can't find it now, but people were asking about them.

Last night I was watching the TV show "Fast and Loud" (car modification show) and they had some people buying an Amphicar (the 1950's or 1960's era cars that go in water)....the guys buying the car said specifically they were buying as many as they could............. for a Resort in Orlando, Florida.

I think this confirms for me that there will be a lot of restored Amphicars at Disney Springs (unless it was already confirmed elsewhere and I missed it)

I don't think that there has been any announcement about Amphicars at Disney Springs. What you're recalling is one of the pieces of Disney Springs concept art showing the new restaurant going in at the eastern end of Pleasure Island. That concept art showed a couple Amphicars and other "classic old boats" in the lake heading towards that restaurant/marina:

That's it, thanks. I think it's interesting and I don't know of any other projects planning to use cars in the water like that.

I spent a little too much time on this, but anyway here's a video of the aforementioned Amphicar buyer on Fast and Loud...

Also check this out from wikipedia..
"Steven Schussler is a developer of theme restaurants and the creator of the Rainforest Cafe. He has created, built and owns T-Rex Cafe, Yak & Yeti Restaurant, Betty & Joe's, Hot Dog Hall of Fame, Galaxy Drive In, and Backfire Barbeque."

Keep in mind that Schussler even says that it is an "exhibit" for a theme park in Orlando. That would leave one to believe that this may be a temporary thing in Disney Springs. Maybe for the grand opening of DS.

He's also the guy that convinced Disney to close Pleasure Island.
