Disney Springs construction begins

Keep Moving Forward
Hopefully by then they will have changed their mind on the Disney Springs name.
Downtown Disney couldn't be more perfect.

I think Downtown Disney is a great name for what is was. With Pleasure Island gone the downtown, city vibe they were going for is gone. The new makeover is moving further away from the downtown look. I'm not sure is Disney Springs is the right name either since this will be shopping and dining. Springs makes me think of either nature or a spa.

In the close up pics from that video, is that a lighthouse I see? Just past where the Portobello is?

Lighthouse has long been planned for the area since it was going to be Hyperion Wharf. Originally was to be a fast food replacement for McDonalds (before Pollo Campero opened it's own Mickey Ds replacement), and then was to be part of Shussler's "Motorboats & Root Beer Floats" restaurant. Not sure if this is a vestige of the old plans or still planned.

LOL. Schussler's website still lists this:

Anchor yourself in a vintage watercraft on top of Florida tropical waters. Enjoy the open air and nautical environment.

Not sure what went down--possibly their #1 TDO cheerleader being shuffled off to a new role and/or out of the company--but I haven't heard a peep about them being involved in Disney Springs. Or maybe they realized their plans of multiple new TSRs wasn't feasible. Either way, the fact that Disney is showing off two, contradictory models for the new development implies it's still somewhat in a state of flux. Meanwhile, we've known most of the tenant line-up of I-Drive Live since last year.

Not really sure how many table service restaurants they can support out there. The Earl does good because it's relatively cheap. But Paradiso has to keep people stationed on the sidewalk to draw people in. There are capacity issues a few times a year but restaurants can't operate at a profit by being full just a few times a year.

Is planet Hollywood staying? I see a big dome building in the model, but is it being repurposed? Such a horrible restaurant.
