Awww... I really loved those spotlights. PI has never really been the same since they stopped celebrating New Year's every night. :(

there's no doubt that PI needs a tune up
but I truly hope that they dont can the whole area as I love going to 8Trax and the AC.
WDW will be really boring at night if there are no clubs to go to

Does he ever post anything that is positive!! its always what Disney is doing wrong!! I love this line though...---After all, if Disney's just unplugged Pleasure Island's signature outdoor spotlight system (Which used to help Orlando visitors find Downtown Disney's nighttime entertainment district)

Oh yes...because those spotlights really helped me find the place...you know when I fly my plane or helicopter on the days I'm looking to go out partying! I sorry...I just always though spot lights anywhere was just to make it look pretty and happening...for example the spot lights at DHS that shine behind the Hat Icon...the point of them...just to look pretty for those night time pictures. And many of the times they stay on all night when the park is even closed:brick:. There are too many damn spot lights going around the orlando area...I would get lost if I use that to find "Downtown Disney's Nighttime entertainment district" Give me a break! He is always starting stupid drama!

He's posting news. If you tune into a TV news channel, you'll find the overwhelming majority of news isn't positive- because that's ordinary. Noone is interested in simply: "Everything's great! Always!"

EDIT: And for someone that is asking for positivity, why is your post essentially scathing criticism?

Good point! We all know how the news can twist a story to mean dread and doom! But for someone who says he is a Disney Fan he surely bashes it alot.

In my opinion, he's only 'bashing' Disney because he cares. Just like you would tell a child off for trying to drink bleach, Mr. Hill merely wishes to see PI in a better state.

wow you are really defending him... I just was making the point in the matter that he states because with no spotlights that people will not find the place. I thought it was funny, yes its a criticism, but its very difficult for me to find anything positive about his posts. Its always about Oh Universial is doing this...what is disney going to do to fix this major problem. It just annoying sometimes when he creates this drama like any news station that is unnessary. And the sad thing is people follow it sometimes religiously. I'm sorry but I just thought it was funny on that statement. Forgive me if I offended you.

Think the DVC members across the water at Saratoga Springs had any complaints about the spotlights? Nah, probably not.

Not a big deal, really. You can still find spotlights leading you to the occasional Orlando area car dealership, right?

From Wikipedia:
Today, searchlights are used in advertising, for instance by automobile dealers; the beam of light is visible over a large area, and (at least in theory) interested persons can find the dealer or store by following the beam to its source. This was once common for movie premieres; the waving searchlight beams still can be seen as a design element in the logo of the 20th Century Fox movie studio.

Oh, you'll find that I'm very anti-Hill, but this story isn't some high-fantasy, and it shows one of the small Disney details disappearing. The spotlights could however entice and reassure people that they are on the right way to PI, so they serve at least some other function other than looking pretty.

Yeah, the very first thought I had after I'd finished reading the article was that I bet he's making it sound a lot more "doom and gloom" than it actually is.

hmm

My gfsa parents are members of saratoga and we had no complaints about the spotlights. I think this means disney will rpob redo pleasure island. I would think basically just expanding downtown disney.

I say good riddants. They had 2 clubs under 18 year olds could go to but they had to buy full price tickets. I think that essentially killed of its popularity.

I've never had a problem with the spotlights while at SSR - in fact, I rather like them. I loved being able to spot them all over property, always so kinetic and exciting. The loss of Motion seems logical though. I was there in January and there were maybe about 15-20 people total, and none were dancing.

I would give about anything to go back to the original PI when it opened to see that mix of clubs - especially to go to the XZFR Rockin Rollerdome! Unfortunately, it closed rather long before I was a clubbing age.

Just to balance things a bit with the OP; further down the article it is stated that Motions equipment was removed to replace it with newer models

See, to me, that's the only bad news in the article because that's the only club that I think needed to go! :hurl:

I have an update that might shed some light on this matter. Last night, a company rented out the Studios for a huge convention. There was use of many of these "skytracker" lights along Sunset Boulevard. Perhaps the P.I. lights were moved to Studios for this event, and will be returning soon?

A ray of hope (pun intended)?
