News Disney Riviera Resort announced

The bed that fell off though is the single bed, like they have at the Poly or BRV. Not the new queen size wall b

It’s 300 units, one of the smallest DVC resorts.

Why not let people have their own opinions? I can’t wait to see it for myself and will stay there when I can travel at a low point season. And I fail to see what business is it of yours if he has other DVC points or not.
I’m actually surprised it’s only 300...looked bigger than that.

My opinions are just that. I know I really don’t convince anyone. But it’s important to provide some balance. When the price is 3x in 15 years...the consumers have failed. That’s not a reasonable rate of rise. Nor is it good for the members...it sets pricing at unsustainable levels that the company expects to increase.

That’s not my issue...but if they change the program to accommodate the pursuit of those prices (already have) and then cut corners to save on the construction/maintenance...that affects all of us.

I’m abrasive...no doubt. But my Disney instincts are usually close. I was dead on about how they were mishandling Star Wars...and today looks like ground zero and the book or revelations on that

The question about previous points is just curiousity if they bought the same product for far less prior in a better system?
But is that like looking behind the curtain? Sorry if that’s too far...

But it wasn’t “just curiosity” though, was it? It was “an important question” in your own words. Buying direct is buying in the same system, other than if you want to sell.

I fail to see what you mean about it being bad for owners that prices have risen so much. It seems pretty good to me that in less than 10 years I could sell and make back everything I paid, including the financing. Those of us who already own aren’t affected by the rise in pricing for new owners are we? It makes our points more valuable, asset wise. I don’t see the problem. 🤷‍♀️

Your abrasiveness is all well and good to those of us who are used to it. For relative newbies it is, well, abrasive to the point of rudeness IMO.

I don’t view vacation club as an investment

It is for enjoyment and for much needed leisure that we “‘Mericans” give no value to...
Not everything has to be flipped for profit.

That’s the kinda tact that promotes profit only motive...and fuels big, public companies to mine everyone and everything more for profit.
...can’t think of any off the top of my head 🤔

Again...all opinion. Just like I suggested to those that said they were embarrassed at what Disney has done with Star Wars...but are going with 20 tickets tonight ANYWAY. Don’t feed the beast...it’s not gonna turn out well.

Bad quality/value should be met with failure. That is the “free market”.

As far as the last part...Since it’s my opinion and you’re standing in judgment...see BOLD above.

Happy Holidays, Nick.

I don’t see DVC as an investment either. But I still don’t understand why it’s bad for us that the prices have risen so high. The time will come that DH and I can no longer make the transatlantic trip to visit, at that point it is good to know we can sell and recoup some of our outlay. But even if that option did not exist I would still consider it as “worthwhile” for the fun it gave our family.

And I agree that DVC should be seen as more than just a financial purchase. It’s as much about personal enjoyment as anything else. So that makes your assertion of bad value even harder to decipher - how can something that provides pleasure be seen as bad value and deserving to fail.

Whether or not it makes financial sense to one person is no reason to wish it to fail. Clearly DVC is not failing, it is a very successful model.

I come to the resort a lot when I have an AP which is roughly every 3 years but when I’ve run the numbers it’s never made sense, couple that with the rising costs, loss of flexibility (you better like your home resort because you’re only going to be able to stay there or OKW and SSR) loss of benefits on resale contracts and losing nightly maid service I don’t think I’ll ever buy into DVC today. I actually think this program may tank (contacts flood the market) the next time we have a recession.

Opinions vary.

As I’m sure you know...I tinkered with finances (and hotels) in a former life for an entertainment company...different philosophy a little bit then...though

The value is this: if something is sold for $85 dollars at one point in time and rises to...I don’t know...say? $195 in a short window...it affects how the bean counters perceive it. So they push, and push, and continue to push till they crash it and value Plummets. Any product...no matter the label...is in danger of this.

Opinions do vary. I don’t see the last ten years of being responsible stewardship...and against the philosophy of what DVC was built for: a way to keep you coming...not a hammer to the knees as you tried to enter the gate.

I had the same thought.

But I don’t think “tank”...just a severe blow they’ll take out on us.

Some of those people who stressed it and couldn’t pay cash? They head for the hills. Goes to pattern

Happened in 2008 when things were much cheaper

Home Depot sells #2 Grade 2x6x8 for $4.58 each.

$4.58 x 300 Units =

$1,374 saved by DIS.

Now that the resort has officially opened, I thought it would be a good time to bring back a prediction I made 2 years ago. ;)
So I think it actually is going to be called Disney's Riviera Resort. When Chapek first says the name it just sounds like Disney, but if you listen closely he does slip in the 's:

And on the Skyliner map we see that the 's is clearly there, and I have a hard time believing they made a typo on the official logo.

I'm officially making this my prediction, and at some point we'll find out if I'm right. In the meantime we might as well correct this thread title @wdwmagic ! ;)

Unless something changes it will be called Disney Riviera Resort. That is the current official name. The text on the slide is a typo in a generic font, not the resorts official logo.
Is it though? I couldn't find anywhere it says that besides fan websites. The Disney Parks Blog doesn't even have a post about the new resort...

Obviously we now know they went with Disney’s. I can assure you though that early in the process the plan was in fact to drop the ‘s. They changed their minds just as they revised the name of art of animation. Despite a push to remove the apostrophe S with each new project here they seem reluctant to pull the trigger. I for one am pleased because I prefer the ‘s and prefer the continuity of nomenclature across the resort. We can only hope they come to their senses regarding Reflections.

Nothing I’ve seen indicates the place isn’t too bland.

The grounds and pools are not impressive...and while I’m sure the inside is very clean and nice - so’s a Marriott...and you don’t have to pay $35,000 upfront.

And too big...500 more units to flood an already over saturated pond.

You’re buying this? Let me ask: do you have other DVC points? That’s an important question.

And I assume you’re paying that credit card like it’s cash in 28 days for points or something?
To finance timeshares is a bit insane...

To answer your questions, no I do not have other DVC points. For question 2, I am not at the resort and did everything over the phone, which required a deposit via credit card to get the paperwork started. It was stated as a requirement regardless of paying cash or financing. While I really do not consider it anyone's business how I choose to pay, let's just say I do not carry debt for anything. If I can't afford it I don't buy it.

Thanks for your concern for my well-being.

Then the purchase makes sense for you...that is not nearly always the case.

Think for yourselfer
So, shoddy construction and sad little studios aside. Is the pool at this resort the least impressive in the entirety of WDW? When paying 40k for an expiring stake in a timeshare, I feel like you'd at least want an impressive pool area. I know I would. The 30 year old OKW pool complex is more impressive than this.

It’s better than the contemporary, fort wilderness, and the values.

The OKW pool today is not as it was 30 years ago. It has recieved some updates over the years including the addition of the slide structure that was not originally there.

The more I look at the pics the more I think this resort was designed more for empty nesters and folks traveling without children. It wouldn't be very appealing to a child. Or even those traveling with children. Can't believe how bad the pool area is.

The pools appear to be embarrassing from the pictures...I was hoping that they used Cgi to hide the “real” pools so it was like an JJ Abrams “mystery box” reveal 😳

Did they go to Atlantic City casinos to get their “inspiration”?

The next recession will see the same thing as the last. Contracts flooding the market, people will buy them for peanuts and there will be even more members with large portfolios.

There are two pools. One of which has what looks like a great Fantasia themed splash play area for kids; not sure how good the slide is.

I actually like the more “formal” layout of the landscaping of the quiet pool, even if it does look somewhat boring. I think as a quiet pool to simply float around in, or even do some lengths, it fits the bill.
