Disney Rewards Visa Chase Card

So, is this card worth it?

How do you accumulate points? What determines how many points you get? How do you use them towards a WDW vacation? What about the interest? Can you make payments at the bank?

I have many questions since I've had bad luck with credit cards.

As far as it's a free card, yes. About all it is going to 'cost' you is another open line of credit on your credit reports.

As was mentioned, it only 'pays' %1 back, which is not the greatest. But they do have promos.

I currently have one running for Oct, Nov, and Dec where if I use the card 4 times or more in a single month, I get 10 bonus points, and if I do it in all three months, I get another 10 on top of that.

If you can manage your credit (i.e. not run up massive amounts of debit) and your credit can take another open line of credit, the card is worth it for the park discounts and perks as well.

I only carry 4 cards (for some thats a lot, for others maybe not) and this is one of them. One I only carry of nostalgic reasons (I have had it since 1990 and it says it on the card - it also has my picture on it, making it a semi photo ID) and one is an airline card, so the Disny one is pretty much a working credit card for me.

I have the Mickey and friends card, I use it on everything and I immediately pay it off once the charge goes through, so instead of getting gas with my debit card i use my Disney Visa, then a day later I pay off the card. I rack up points rather quickly this way!

I was racking up major Disney Dollars this way, until my gas station starting charging different prices for debit and credit--even for Disney Dollars, I'm not paying 10cents more per gallon than I have to!

Does your card say "Charter Cardholder" or something like that and then "Member since Day 1" on it, too? We got ours the first year of the Disney VISA. On one of the card expiration/re-issues the cards they sent didn't say that on the front like they did at first. Hubby called & got the cards reissued with those little phrases on it. I make fun of him whenever he tells someone that story...he's such a little Disney Diva.

Yes, ours say "Since Day 1", and underneath our names is "Disney Vacation Club" instead of "Charter Cardholder", which was an option at the time, since we had DVC when the cards were first issued. We redheads are notorious Disney Divas, don'tcha know!! ;)

I'm a Day 1 card member, I love having it! The interest rate is high, but aren't they all? I currently have the Tink card, my husband has the regular Mickey card. I really like the castle card too. It's nice to build up points & use them on Disney trips. We always get the special photopass picture in Epcot. We've used it to get the discounts in the World of Disney store & on tours too. It's great for Disney fans. :)

You should be paying it off in-full each month, and then it doesn't matter what the interest rate is. Paying interest essentially negates the points you earn.

Yeah I looked into getting one and possibly doing a balance transfer but the interest rates are rediculously high in comparison to the ones I have. I'm just gonna wait till we get our current visa paid off and then switch over to the Disney visa and pay it off each month.

I do the same thing.

Lucky. My version of the same promo was drop $750 a month on gas, groceries, airlines, and then get triple points on anything above that. When it was 5Xpoints for over $500 I just went and bought a bunch of Disney gift cards for an upcoming trip. Paid the trip in advance that way and got the bonus points.

Common thought seems to be that if you can get a general rewards card with a higher rewards, take it. The main benefits to the Disney visa would be the 6 months no interest on Disney trips, and the other little perks like a free photo. But if those are not attractive to you, look at another rewards card.

Yeah, that was a rare promo for me. I get the $750 and above ones most of the time.

The thing to remember too, is that this is a free rewards card. If you want better rewards (much better rewards) then you might have to end up paying for a card.

I tend to run most purchases through my Continental card, because I do pay for that one, and it does have a better rewards return.

Have had mine since day 1. I use it for everything but pay it off each month so I don't have to worry about the high interest rates. Use my points to buy my annual pass every year.

My design was discontinued (The Disneyland Castle for the 50th Anniversay), so once I switch I can't get that design again. I wish there were more park-specific designs (or maybe even a design-your-own card).
I had that one too and LOVED it, but when my card expired I automatically got the new blue castle one. :(

I have the blue card with the castle in the sky. I, too, was fortunate enough to receive the $200 offer, and even more fortunate because it was in the weeks leading up to our trip in April, so when we arrived, I was able to go to the Visa place at DTD and get my card. By then, I had acquired 4 extra points, so my card was for $204 which I was able to use for spending on our trip.

I'm not one to go out and buy a bunch of junk just because I have a credit card...unless you count periodic stops at McDonalds which I might not otherwise make. I think credit cards are fine as long as you don't abuse them and go out and buy a bunch of stuff that you wouldn't intend on buying without the card. But I have decided to use this credit card for anything that I don't need cash or a check for; grocieries, gas, going out to eat, etc. Things that we would be doing anyway and now, instead of having dozens of entries in the checkbook to have to keep track of (and remember to write down), just put them all on one credit card bill and write one check for the total. This allows me to streamline my checkbook, as well as gradually saving up for a future Disney trip. Right now, I have around $110 in rewards points (not bad since we cashed out my first round of points back in April) and when I pay my April 2011 trip in full, I intend to first put it on my Visa card and then pay my card back, thereby getting another $41 or so in rewards points. Rather than using those points for the April trip, however, I intend to keep using it and accumulating points until probably 2013. My wife wants to stay at the Grand Floridian that year for our 10 year anniversary. So between our April 2011 trip, a hopeful April 2012 trip and all the other normal spending in between now and 2013, I am hoping I will have enough points racked up by 2013 to cash out for a $500 gift card to use on our anniversary trip. :sohappy:

And I guess that leads me to a question that I had regarding that. Did I read somewhere that these points cannot be used to book a trip? We like to do the magic your way plus dining, so unless we could use this gift card towards the initial booking of the package, then that means that when we get there, our tickets and dining would already be paid for, so we couldn't use the gift card for that. And I'm not sure that we would be able to spend $500 on souveniers, unless we just went on a spending spree to use the gift card.

So, ideally, we would use the accumulated points towards the booking of our stay and then pay the difference. If we can't do that, I wonder if we should just forgo the dining plan for that trip and use the gift card towards our dining. Heck, by that time, they may have whittled the dining plan down to where there is no real value in it anymore such that I wouldn't want it anyway...

We are day one members, but all these deals are making me wish I could cancel and get those. It is our primary card, and we use it for almost everything. We never carry a balance, pay it off in full each month.

I have the castle. I get a lot of comments on it. We get a few hundred of extra spending money on our trip each year, so we like it!

I just got the Chase Debit card and have done everything as credit but it shows no rewards or points.SHould I call Chase or wait til end of month to find out why?

When I got mine I only recieved the 50 reward dollars, wish I had known about other deals. Anyway, I'm pretty young so I was just happy to get it period. I chose the Toy Story one with Buzz and Woody. No plans of changing yet.

I thought I had heard Disney will give you extra percentages off if your pay for your trip with your card. If this has any truth, has anyone done so?
