Disney Playing catch up with Universal... Potter Disney's biggest mistake in 20 years...

interesting that they did that considering how good the Terminator attraction is and that avatar was much bigger and better than Terminator

Avatar is not a better film than either of Cameron's Terminator films. I'm not a fan of Cameron or his films but his early stuff is far better than the bloated, CGI-heavy spectacles he makes now.

His early stuff (Terminator 1 & 2, Aliens) had substance, now he's all about style. Titanic and Avatar might have made more money but they are not better films than the low-budget ones he made his name with.

its better critically and financially
you may not like it which is certainly your opinion but it was more successful than Terminator

I don't think Disney missing out on the franchise is the thing to bemoan here. The fact that Universal has given Disney an a$$ whooping in terms of WWoHP's sheer quality and innovation is what really did it. Disney's idea of "innovation" these days is simply cramming pre-existing marketable characters into tired old attractions. No technological or artistic breakthroughs what so ever.

Well said. The mistake wasn't missing out or passing up on HP, it was Disney's "reaction" if you will. They had they ability, money, and experience to pull off something remarkable in terms of an "answer". What they lacked was the will to do such. And now it's up to them to prove they still can do this, because wether they like it or not, regardless of Disney's "corporate" strategy, perception is starting to play a role. Once that happens, reality sometimes follows suit.

I don't know about concept art for the extra dark ride scenes but I know I've seen concept art of an outdoor scene where you passed under a bridge as the Dwarfs march across but I can't seem to find it. Maybe @marni1971 can help me with this?
Not really. I didn't follow the project that much.

More successful does not equal better.

Its like saying the Star Wars prequels are better than the original trilogy. Like Lucas did, Cameron now prioritises technology over a strong story; both Terminator films had a strong story, Aliens (while in my view nowhere near as good at Alien) put a new spin on an already successful film and had one of the most compelling mother/daughter storylines you will ever see on film in Ripley and Newt.

Money is not a barometer of a film's quality. Michael Bay's films make millions but are, for the most part, absolute garbage. Avatar made more money than 12 Year's A Slave, does that automatically mean its a better film?

that's why I said critically as well...

Pretty much what it's like to ride version 1.0.
Well...if that's it, then nothing to get excited about.
It's just a box room with hang glider seats and you sit next to one another and watch the show.
Same building as Epcot, just moved to Ak and covered with rocks.
I have to trust you know what you are talking about. I don't know any different.

Terminator 2>>>>>> Titanic and Avatar combined in terms of actual quality (not effects)

Avatar had a terrible story - without the effects, it's wooden. T2 wasn't all CGI and still featured some revolutionary tech for 1991.
again to each his own..i personally loved T2 but if we re really being objective and basing things on true merits of success both commercially and critically its really not even close even though I loved T2

Well that confirms my previous post. Pandora is looking to be another New Fantasyland which can best be described as the most enticingly beautiful book cover hiding an old John Grisham novel from 90's that you already read.

All we can do is wait and find out.
Marni says it won't be worth anyone's time....If you ridden soarin that is. it's the exact same thing with a new video, might as well put the avatar video in Epcot area..would work exactly the same.

All we can do is ride it ourselves and find out.

Will the boat ride have the detail of the seven dwarfs mine train? According to this website...doubtful.
It's been rumored to be built with second hand match sticks and wet cardboard. We will just have to wait and find out.
