And if people remained "neutral" 50 years ago, we'd still have segregation in this country too. People need to stand up and say something because the fight for equality of LGBT peoples is the same basic, human civil rights issue that women have faced, African Americans have faced and other minority groups have faced. It's only by NOT staying silent do we get as a country get over these petty bigotries and reasons to hate.

Good for Disney for adding their voice to this project.

Exactly!

Well done Disney for supporting such an important cause!

I'm thinking Disney really should've stayed neutral on this one. Nobody wants to see young people commiting suicide but that rainbow logo at the end looks like full on support of something A LOT of families are uncomfortable with.

Families that are uncomfortable with gay people probably shouldn't be going to WDW then.

Thankfully Disney doesn't stay silent to appease bigots.

The word bigot can go many ways, remember that, it's a hypocritical word.
It's also hypocritical to think the LGBT cast members at Disney are good enough to serve you, assist you and otherwise help make your stay magical and yet deny them the same, basic equality that straight people enjoy.

As someone who works with teens everyday, this is a good thing. Kids need all the help they can get. Why can't the mouse help?

So you don't think any one persons political/personal view is strong enough to keep them from going back to WDW for example?

That has been the case in the past, but it has never come anything close to adversley affecting Disney's bottom line. I would assume that Disney's partcipation in the project shows their confidence that nothing substantially bad will happen as a result of this or Pixar's video. Remember too that Disney, like most companies, does not have to appeal to 100% of the population in order to be successful.

Based on other big corporate participation in the project (Apple, Target, Whirpool, Google, along with sport teams and celebrities) Disney is clearly following a popular trend here, but it's one that still has a good message for young people and Disney's staff.

If someone is offended by the idea of "supporting" LGBT persons, then they should probably think about the possibility that just about anyone they come across (in person or not) is a member of that community and benefits in some way from someone else's business. For that reason, it's just a good idea in any situation to not automatical disrespect a person based on a particular, personal characteristic.

Bravo again. :sohappy:

It makes me chuckle to think about how people have no problem being waited on by the LGBT cast (and a very large percentage of cast members are a part of this community), but when it comes to their civil rights, people start to draw lines in the sand.

Anyone that a has a "problem" with members of the LGBT community really ought to re-think a vacation to Walt Disney World, of all places.

Thanks for helping me out Captain Hank. Resource Group is exactly what I meant to type.

Pride Resource Group was chartered in 1999 by the Disney Co. and still thrives within the company today.

The Trevor Project was founded in 1998 by the creators of the 1994 Academy Award-winning short film Trevor, a dramedy about Trevor, a gay thirteen-year-old boy who, when rejected by friends because of his sexuality, makes an attempt to take his life.

Trevor Project is a "non profit organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth".

"Resource Group" sounds less insidious than "Research Group." Thanks for explaining.

Did anyone say that here?

Kudos to Disney! :sohappy:

So sad to see some people so unsupportive of this. Not only in this thread, but listed in the comments under the video.

Any CM that felt the need to speak to me about their sexual orientation or gender preferences, would get a negative report from me to management.

Is anyone here that uncomfortable with it? Is it really that big of a deal?!

What kind of a situation are you envisioning here? Are you working with the CM, or a guest of the park that the CM is talking to? Your post is too vague to respond to specifically, but it seems to have nothing to do with what was talked about in the youtube video.

The waving smiley face at the end of your post comes across as passive-aggressive and the tone of your post suggests a hint of sadism.

I doubt any CM's would jeopardize their job by breaking character by discussing their personal buisness with you. Therefore I'm almost certain you won't have to worry about going to managment to share your issue!

Mine is such a simple life.

I was taught early in life that every human being should have the opportunity and freedom to be happy.

I [and the God I believe in] judge people by their decency, their caring and their generosity of soul. Not by who they love, what they look like or where they live.

Would the world led such a life.
