Paper straws are one thing. But not offering an alternative for kids at a theme park is insane. A lot of you must not have toddlers. It’s crazy enough holding them and 6 other things in your hands. Now I have to make sure a drink doesn’t spill at the same time? What’s my alternative buying a $40 cup I have to bring to the parks with me every time?

If I want it then it's not unnecessary.

"logic"

Or...Dollar Tree and throw it out before you go home?

Y'all sound like you live in an infomercial where disaster lurks around the corner of every simple task. Coming up with all of these doomsday scenarios, as though humans didn't manage to hydrate themselves for thousands of years before the invention of the plastic straw.

Speaking specifically to people's constant posting that this is a just a financial decision wrapped in a good PR message... paper straws cost a business a heck of a lot more than plastic straws. Like more than twice as much. So, I'd love to know the logic there.

Paper is also biodegradable and doesn't fill up landfills with stuff that will never go away. It's also easier to recycle. Stop focusing on the Oceans, it's about more than just that. Even if it wasn't, who cares how small our percentage of the pollution is? Shouldn't we do anything we can to make the situation better. Some of you sound like children trying to justify rule-breaking by pointing out that little Billy did something worse. We all share a planet.

Talk about your first-world entitled problems.

Disney is just missing an easy money-making opportunity here. Partnership/sponsor deal with Tervis, and then force everyone buy some kind of Tervis tumbler on the way in to the parks (or just bundle one in with theme park tickets and raise ticket prices 20%). Problem solved! :hilarious:

I was thinking more like the whole cup with lid/straw apparatus, duct tape, whatever your special needs may be.

Ahhh. I see. My “special need” is I don’t want another thing to bring to the park among the other necessary things. What’s next, forks and spoons?

I’m all for limiting damage to the planet but eliminating lids at DL is stupid. Meanwhile the rest of the industrial world and the 99% of the world pollution they create keep trucking along making gazillions. But the .000000000000000000000000000000000001 pollution our theme park lids create is the issue? Heck, I wouldn’t even care that much if they eliminated them at fast food restaurants. But at a theme park, with kids, moving from location to location, holding multiple items, it’s stupid.

I carry a backpack with a hydroflask...that must make me full on disabled.

I had to look up hydro flask. Fancy thermos? Not sure what you’re getting at though.
I was attempting a joke at playing around with your "special need" of having to carry an additional item.
Honestly, I regret even getting involved in this discussion.

Having said that, Hydroflask makes an amazing line of double-insulated thermos. Personally, I carry a red 40oz with me just about everywhere I go. At first glance it looks like a small fire extinguisher. I bring the backpack though so I can free up my hands.

Just while we're on the topic of bringing things into the parks, guns and knives should be allowed and you can't change my mind on this.
