The dude who thinks you should go to jail for being in possession of a plastic straw thinks he has the moral high ground

Because those in favor of these types of things are so quick to judge and label anyone who would dare be against them, and so against even considering the possibility that they aren't correct or might be going about things in the wrong way, I'm positive more and more of these types of changes will be popping up and the pollution will just get worse and worse as time goes on.

What are you going to do? There is a desperation to these people to divide and conquer at all costs. I don't foresee anything changing for the better.

I really wish that Disneyland resort would start doing what Knotts does.
sell usable soda cups, pay one price and refill all day. also offer the annual pass version that allows you to refill for the length of your pass.
I know right! It is so convenient and doesn't cost that much that you will be wasting money.

Knowing Disney they will charge $60 for an all year refill that can only be refilled one a day. Disney doesn't make enough profit from a soda that costs them ten cents per cup.

I despise drinking out of refillable plastic cups. They retain a certain smell that’s nasty no matter how well you wash them. (Or at least the collectible McDonalds ones did when I was a kid) Glass only for me. Anything else is a one time use.

We shouldn’t be leading by example by not using straws or Lids. That’s not what we need the other countries to stop doing. We need them to stop dumping garbage in the ocean. We already lead by example in that respect and nothing is happening. We need to try something else. That might actually change something.

Let's not ban straws, because it won't make much of a difference.

Let's not recycle pop cans, because it will have minimal impact.

Let's stop recycling paper because it doesn't make a huge impact.

Every little bit helps. There's no reason not to do multiple things - eliminate unnecessary waste that straws represent, and ALSO deal with those bigger issues.

The difference with recycling cans is that I get money for it.

Also recycling is actually producing something new out of something old. Getting rid of straws is just getting rid of something.

We don't get money for most recyclables, and it's still commonplace to recycle most things. I can remember when the only thing that got put out on trash day was trash. Now cans, bottles, and paper are all recycled separately.

Getting rid of straws is, indeed, getting rid of something. It's getting rid of unnecessary waste. It all adds up. I use a cloth lunch bag when paper bags used to be common. I use cloth grocery bags.

There's so much resistance and hyperbole to what should be a non-issue: reducing waste wherever possible. A lot of able bodied people are suddenly saying they will struggle consuming a drink without a straw. It's amazing some of these people can tie their shoes.
