Disney-MGM Studios Memories

All we know is that MGM/Hollywood Studios will never be the same again. Probably will not go back. Too many good memories from awhile back, and I miss ALL the stuff they have closed, and don't really care to see the stuff they are making...

This is one of my favorite memories from first visit to Disney MGM Studios back in 1991:

My other favorite memories from that first trip was seeing the pictures on the walls at the Brown Derby, see Muppet vision 3-D, Indiana Jones Stunt Show, Star Tours, The Studios Backlot tour and The Great Movie Ride. The early 1990's version of the Backlot Tour was better than the later version of it.

My next new great memories came in 2000 going on TOT, and watching Fantasmic for the first time ever. The only time I saw the Osborne Lights back in 2010.

From back when it was a working studio- my family was in line at the Backlot Tour. My brother starts saying that he saw a family from our church. My mother says don't be silly. We go a little further and it turns out it WAS that family; by complete coincidence, they took a Florida vacation to WDW at the same time we did and ended up in the line at approximately the same time. My dad: "You know, we go to Florida to get AWAY from you people." Their dad wound up being in the boat for the one demonstration.
Oh that's funny! When we were there in '07, we were walking by the Great Movie Ride when we heard "HEY MIKEY!" (my friend.) Turned out, one of his former co-workers was also there and just happened to see us across the way.

We were heading to Back Lot Tour and I walked about 20 feet ahead of my wife and two boys. I walked up to the CM at the entrance and said, "I have 3 volunteers right here for the show." pointing to them. They were surprised and said no but the CM insisted and took them away. They ended up on the boat. I laughed the whole time.

Wow. I really miss Sorcery in the Sky. That pic brought back a lot of memories. I could've sworn that the Macy's parade balloons were at the Streets of America, no?

My first visit was less than a year after it opened. I fell in love with the Backlot Tour, which still included the walking portion, especially the movie vehicle graveyard-as a huge Star Wars geek, I was freaking out at seeing an Airspeeder and Jabba's sand skiff. My Star Wars nerdiness was also out in full force the first time I rode Star Tours. I loved GMR alot, too. My second visit was 2 years ago, and the MGM of my childhood had changed alot, not all good change-the Backlot Tour was a shell of it's former self.

One of my favorite memories was... eating at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater! Our first visit to the park we had lunch there. I also vaguely remember the back lot tour... but the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular was pretty cool too. I really enjoyed the animation building where you could watch animators working on a feature film. I don't know how much I would have enjoyed being watched all the time while I worked lol.

Getting to see an exhibit on Nightmare Before Christmas, including a display of all the different heads they had for Jack's various expressions. Left a huge imprint on me as a kid.

Looping Star Tours with my family twelve times in a row, back before the mix-and-match adventures. Just kept racing back on.

In Feb 2012 when I tried to volunteer my dad for the Backlot Tour Pearl Harbour scene and then they made me do it instead. It was so fun and still have the video.

I miss this attraction, it was for me the ride that mirrored the parks desired image.

Sci-Fi Dine In is a must for me almost every time I head up there. The food is eh at best, but I love the atmosphere. I love seeing the old campy movies and The Cat That Hated People espcially. Good times.

Most amazing memory, New Year's Eve rocking out with Mulch, Sweat & Shears. Great music, great fireworks and great friends to share it all with. Marie

I don't have one highlight. for me the almost the entire park was a highlight. The first time we were at DHS was 1996. For the next few years, it was actually my favorite park, ahead of even the MK. Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards were aesthetically amazing. They were a mix of shops with great exterior design and quality merchandise including men's, women's and children's clothing, kitchenware and home décor that just aren't available anymore. Other highlights were the Aladdin Character Breakfast at the Sound Stage next to the Brown Derby. The shows were new all new to us. It's easier just say I liked practically the entire park for the next few years.
Then came the BAH, the systematic disassembling of attractions, restaurants, and the conversion of the stores from quality to mostly poorly made, but still expensive souvenirs and clothes and finally the removal of the Earful Tower. I truly hope the future holds something good for this park.
