Disney-MGM Studios Memories

We saw Mario Lopez(Slater from Saved by the Bell) at the park one summer in the late 90's...my teenaged cousins and I could have died lol

We were walking across the area in front of the theater while the High School Musical stage show was going on. We looked over to the right, by the Brown Derby. There were three families over on the edge of the crowd, Mom's, dad's and assorted younger (5 to 8 years old) kids. The three dads were NAILING the High School Musical dance routine. All thee of them had it down perfectly. The best part was the looks on their wives faces (basicially, "here they go again") and the utter morification on their kids faces. Our group stopped to cheer them on.

Here is a lasting memory for me. April 2, 2016, my last time walking down the Streets of America one last time before it closed for good

We took a boat from the Dolphin to get there instead of the bus. It started pouring and we were stuck in Pizza Planet for hours....Not the best day of that trip.

But I do remember having lots of fun on Star Tours and MuppetVision.

From my first visit back in '93:

-The lengthy Backlot Tour (after they had gotten rid of the walking portion but still had everything else).

-Seeing the Ninja Turtles driving by in their van with April.

-Seeing the artists actually working on animated features.

-Watching the night time fireworks show that was narrated by Vincent Price

-Thinking I was going to be sick on the original Star Tours ride.

While I would have to say my best memory from my most recent trip last year was finally getting to see Fanasmic, getting to see the Osborne lights in their final run is a close second as I had never seen them before. I'm glad I got to see them once and get some festive pictures.

So it's Saturday night and here I am relaxing and listening to my Sunset Boulevard/ToT playlist. As I sit here and write this, I'm thinking about the future of DHS and how much it's changed since it's inception. I'm not here to discuss the merits of the changes or whether the direction that the park is headed in is the right one. I'm not qualified to make those assessments nor am I going to pretend I am. I'm strictly a fan of Disney, in a nostalgic way and in it's present form.

With that being said, I'm curious to know what some of your favorite memories of Disney-MGM Studios, Hollywood Studios, etc are? What are/were some of your favorite experiences at the park? I chose DHS because it is the park that may indeed be going through the most radical changes at WDW.

For me, I'll never forget the first time I walked down Sunset Boulevard and rode the ToT back in August of 1994. In my eyes, this whole area of the park represents the pinnacle of Disney Imagineering of the last 25 years. The whole area does a great job of immersing you in the "Golden Age of Hollywood" motif with the architecture and music. It does an amazing job of building you up to ride ToT. I'll never forget waiting in the queue and watching elevator after elevator fall. The neon glow of the signage buzzing in the summer night only added to the mystique of this ride. Then stepping into the lobby took my 12 year old breath away. It felt like stepping back into 1939. Fast forward to the ride. Everything was awe inspiring. The 5 souls lost, the window breaking, the 5th dimension scene. Then the single fall. It was incredible.

To me, this area at DHS is sacred. I still stand in awe of the ToT each time I go. With that being said, what are your fondest memories of MGM/DHS?

There is something about the great movie ride, the smell when you enter, the nostalgia, the representation of the glory of the stars and movies of the past.
I love the ride and hope it stays for a long time. The TT was done to perfection, it creates the atmosphere perfectly. Details Disney is about details. I focus on details of all the rides and compare the old to the new to see if they are still paying attention to the details.

I know I've said this more than once in threads but my greatest memory from MGM Studios was my love for film. I was 8 when this park opened and this was the first time I'd ever seen a real working studio and I fell in love with all things Hollywood and film production. I graduated in 2012 with a BS in Film so the bug stuck for sure.
In 2007 I started working with WDW at MGM Studios which I requested as it had always been my favorite park from my childhood.

Agreed! I Loved the Stars and Motorcars too! Loved the music for it(had it stuck in my head for a decade now) i sure miss this parade don't we?

The Golden Girls house on Residential Street. It is imprinted in my brain and I don't think it will ever leave.

Also as part of the backlot tour (?) I think you got to go through a queue that housed TV studio set props and objects that were supposedly used when filming the various TV shows. It was cool being able to see these props, but it always made me wonder if they were the actual objects used on set, or were just replicas or extras.

I remember loving the Playhouse Disney show as a kid, and my parents loved it too! Then again, they really loved Bear in the Big Blue House...

The Playhouse Disney show is way better than what Disney Junior does nowadays(Sofia the First is the only one of the four shows represented in this show that i personally liked(i like Elena too, but she isn't in the show), don't hate me for this).
