What year is the date nite book? About 1985 I spent many Saturday nights swing dancing with my girlfriend to a big band. I thought I got some sort of after 5pm deal.All kidding aside (but seriously, don't you dare say Christmas!), I do appreciate that they continue to use the incorrect spelling of the word night in this promotion.
Merriest Nites
Just like Date Nites, since 1958. Or Grad Nites since 1961. It's a very mid-century commercial spelling of that word. Probably something only done in America. Good for TDA for ignoring the dorky metric system and spelling it this way!

It's from the late 1960's.
Date Nite ticket deals were a thing at Disneyland beginning in 1958, and went into the 1980's. You can thank Jack Lindquist.

Will I be a resident of the North Pole during a frantic toy making session before a midnight deadline? (don't say Christmas!) Will I be a townsfolk of Main Street USA during a Winter Holiday Shopping Spree? (don't say Christmas!) Or will I be a royal subject of a snow-bedecked Fantasyland during the merriest time of year? (don't say Christmas!)
What is my role here? What is my motivation? You can't expect me to shell out $165 for 4 hours if I don't know what I'm a jolly, merry, joyous, happiest time of year that has nothing to do with Christmas resident of. Give me something to work with!

Just like my first visit to Star Wars Land, I can see it now....
I wander in to The Emporium as a fully paid Merry Townsfolk to help with the frenzied Winter Holiday Shopping Spree (don't say Christmas), but instead of the shopclerks bustling about trying to meet a deadline on the 24th (don't even say Christmas Eve), they are all just standing around grousing about how they have to work on Christmas (they said it, not me!) and how Katie is throwing another epic keg party on New Year's Eve (is that holiday okay to say out loud?) in an adjacent town to Main Street USA called Fullerton.
I'm immersed! $165 for four hours worth of immersion!

They're on sale now; Disney had put on the website that they'd go live no earlier than 9am this morning.
They can always add more nights. At WDW, they added more Boo DAH nights when the original slate sold out.

Not buying tickets, but I was curious about the demand. Got in line at around 10:30am, was at the front of the line by 12pm. All dates available.

I just checked the calendar also, and 12/9 is now sold out. I'm actually surprised that sold out already today.

This is what you get when you basically allow Orlando to dictate operations in California. The pricing is insane, especially when you consider they're not including Galaxy's Edge, Toontown, and Critter Country.
In Orlando during the After Hours Events and parties, they at least include all of the major attractions. Omitting Splash Mountain, Rise of the Resistance, Millennium Falcon, and Roger Rabbit make the pricing even more outrageous.
I expect you will see a lot more of this in the future and eventually the holiday festivities will eventually become exclusive to the parties.

I liked OBB for offering a different feel to the parks (allowing costumes, way more characters than usual, trick-or-treating etc.), but that's a rarity among hard-ticketed events at the parks. I was never interested in things like Star Wars Nite et al. from before the pandemic because it didn't really go far enough IMO to justify a separate ticket; Merriest Nites gives me the same impression.
