No chatter except that the administration is prepared to extend the mandate.
I'm scared of this today, I think mask mandate will be extending today or tomorrow, or Friday. I don't want to wear mask on transportation ever again. And so that's why this:

I think this is why that means for extending mask mandate for transportation due to Omicron BA.2 subvariant madness in northeast states now....

Not sure why you are scared because of this. Given how bad BA.1 was when it was 90%, we're not seeing entirely the same for BA.2. Honestly I'd get my magic 8 ball out for a best guess on what will happen.

How you know when we will get news from federal mask mandate is extending or ending it?

We'll know by Tuesday. After the last extension I will not pretend to have a clue.

Next week will be wrong way or another, as COVID-19 resurging or extending mask mandate for transportation or not.

Still not sure why the transportation mandate is an issue for people. Wear the mask on the plane for a few hours, wear it on the busses and monorail for a few minutes each day. Who cares? It's not like you're wearing it indoors at Disney or even outdoors at Disney. TBH, wearing a mask on a plane or bus seems pretty trivial at this point. Annoying yes, but nothing to cancel a trip over.

Yep, it's more of an annoyance. Though monorail stations offer masks to use. Just keeping track of one required me to have a bag when I don't always carry one. Again an annoyance but not a huge deal.

There are countries who dropped restrictions and cases went down. It's not an either or necessarily. If we are undercounting that means our illnesses are low enough to not be a worry. Granted some do not report if positive, but I honestly am not pressed with colds going around as they are. I know vaccinated people tested positive were less sick than they were with a subsequent cold. So these have little bearing on mask mandates now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not wear a mask at all at Disney but if they ended the mandate through October this year I'm not going to gripe since it would keep some people away from the parks during our trip. :angelic:

Just kidding. Put down the pitchforks. I hope they get rid of the mandate too. Mainly so we can stop seeing all the griping and complaining. LOL 😁

To give another example of why people think differently about this, especially when considering travel outside of Disney....I have a flight coming up next month that is over 8 hours. Adding in time at the airport, etc. total mask wearing time is going to be at least 10 hours. I don't want to wear a freaking mask for 10 hours. That isn't a controversial stance. If we know anything about how omicron and its subvariants spread, it is stupid and unnecessary. And I am not interesting in hearing, "well, you know what could have been the rules when you booked the flight last year." That has become a lame excuse for accepting outdated rules that are no longer relevant given the current situation. It should no longer be "just suck it up and stop complaining." The alternative isn't "don't travel if you don't like the rules." The alternative at this point is to drop the unnecessary rule that has no impact on spread. If they don't drop it now, I don't see a point where they will ever drop it. And this doesn't even touch on the impact these rules are stull having on travel.

On long flights I totally get it. Was talking Disney only in mine. Not going to go into debates on masks but I totally follow you.

At Disney on a 10-15 minute bus or monorail ride? No biggie. Keeping track of masks really is an annoyance only to me. Though they do help some with smells ;) Some with allergies but not entirely too. My March trip was our only trip where indoors wasn't required and it was much easier. Hoping June will be similar.

I protest by wearing the same mask over and over again when required. Stickin' it to the Man, man! 🤣

I'm dreading a nine hour flight in a mask especially considering we haven't legally needed to wear one since Feb in all settings. Mask wearing here is now less than 10% with it being optional, that includes public transport. On the way over I'll be mixing with fellow passengers maskless until we get on the plane, currently all needing to be double jabbed and have a negative test before even getting on the plane. It's been quite interesting reading this thread as we were having exactly the same conversations over here but when masks became optional within a couple of weeks hardly anyone wears them.

Was masking ever a big political divide in your neck of the woods? Over here, optional masking varies widely by location. It seems to me that in areas with higher percentages of people who identify with the mask party, significantly more people still wear them in stores and things.

At vacation destinations like WDW, it is an extremely low percentage. It seems that no matter what somebody's political views are, if they feel "safe" enough to go on vacation and don't think it is wrong to take vacations while people are dying in a global pandemic they don't feel the need to wear masks.

Oh God yes very political and there was definitely that divide between Conservative & Labour voters on the mask issue. Like I say it's much less than 10% actually wearing them now and I have travelled to different cities over the last month. Also focus in the media has shifted almost completely to Ukraine.

Perhaps a bit too broad of an assumption about mask wearing. 😊 I‘ve many friends who have been visiting WDW since it reopened and most continue to wear a mask (because the pandemic is not over). It has zero to do with their individual political beliefs, but rather because they feel safer wearing a mask. 😷 It is the same where I live (red southern state)…mask mandates are a thing of the past for now, but about 30% of people still wear a mask inside stores and restaurants. I respect whatever each person decides is right for them. 👍

Like your attitude. Too bad folks in other places don't have the opportunity to even express themselves like you. Let's say like Shanghai for instance. Disney is mum on how S.D. is doing.
