Just going to put this here. Make of it what you will. This was from spring 2021 so omicron will be different/possibly shorter.

Not true - surgical even helps. I don't love masks but I'd rather masks than schools shut down again. If kids at the schools I volunteer in can wear them without complaining, surely adults can wear them around. Why people fight nearly 2 years later is baffling. I do hope they'll be gone at WDW at least by the summer trip, I don't see the point in spreading false info. If all are wearing at least surgical they are not useless

Did you even bother with reading the fine print on the bottom of the chart? It’s from spring 2021, pre-delta and absolute pre-omicron.

Masks are worthless against the spread. Just accept it. At this point wearing one is just tribalism.

Because those people refused to wear them since the beginning. That is why we are all learning the Greek alphabet now. They will fight wearing one all the way to a respirator.

Mask mandates implemented by cities/towns/states, including for my kids to go to school, when the science says masks don’t work! Yet my kids need to sit in school for 7 hours with masks on their faces for the last 2+ years, all for the appearance of safety. It breaks my heart they are being used in such a way and it really bothers them.
You are missing a good deal of nuance. Cloth masks aren’t useless. They just aren’t good enough to completely stop spread. But they are better at preventing spread than nothing at all. We see how Omicron spreads at large, unmasked parties. It doesn’t spread that much in classrooms and those kids are mostly wearing cloth face masks. So it is limiting spread even if it doesn’t completely stop it. 3 sick kids is better than 18 sick kids. We also need actual adults in the room. If 10% of staff is out, a school can work with that. If 50% are out? No school for a week. Or more.

Most parents are unaware of just how dire the staffing situation is in schools as it is.

Unfortunately, some people only see absolutes - either 0 kids get sick or it's proof that masks don't work.

Just like the vaccines.

Seatbelts don’t prevent all car accident deaths, either. And some kids die in car seats. But both are still immensely important tools to save lives.

Although if we still have to explain this 2 years later, I think we are wasting our time.

If you got in a car wreck and walked away with a big bruise from your seatbelt, you wouldn't say "Seatbelts don't work!" You'd say "Seatbelts didn't stop the accident, of course, but it would have been a LOT worse without them".

Insisting that a mitigation tactic need 100% success to be considered "working" is ridiculous. Masks don't STOP the spread, but they DO slow it considerably. Which has been the point from the beginning. And now we have better masks available that do an even BETTER job at slowing the spread (KN95's)- so much so that they can offer protection to both the wearer and those around them. Masking has become an even better tactic than it was in the beginning.

Saying as a blanket statement that "masks don't work" is silly, disingenuous, and flat out wrong. Especially this far into the pandemic. Goodness.

That chart looks like it says cloth masks are 30% better than nothing to me.....

No. He'd just sue the seatbelt manufacturer, the car manufacturer, and the car salesman.

Yup it’s why hospitals continue to use them.

They aren’t worthless and they don’t make you bulletproof, believe it of not there is actually a range of effectiveness. I know, it’s scary living in a non binary world.

I think we all need to agree on this. They help some, but not near the level that many think they do. Let’s move back to when WDW will change its policy so Mom doesn’t shut us down.

That is completely false. Maybe I wasn’t clear, but I was referring to non-N95 masks with Omicron. They are essentially useless at this point and even left-wing doctors and scientists are now admitting it.

I know I’m wasting breath, but I still don’t get it. Why are people so opposed to wearing a mask or having kids wear one? The CO2 myth is garbage and has been debunked. The psychological affects are dubious at best, the idea that masks do nothing is nonsense. To break it down in simple terms - we cover our mouths when we cough or sneeze to DECREASE the transmission of germs. Not prevent any spread. According to antimaksers’ logic we shouldn’t be doing that because it doesn’t completely stop the spread, we also shouldn’t wash our hands because there’s still a fraction of a percent of germs that are missed. When my patients tell me that they can’t wear a mask, unless the have significant respiratory disease, I let them know that they are able to and explain why. If they tell me I’m wrong I tell them to put their masks on anyway.

I don't see Disney getting rid of the mask mandate at its parks and resorts until there is minimal spread nationwide. They already removed the rule once and had to bring it back and I don't think they want to go through that again.

If the issue is just what type of mask is most effective, attend a local school board meeting and request that they change the requirement to N95 or KN95 and distribute free masks to all kids each day so that all kids and staff members are getting maximum protection.

You seem scattered.

I addressed your point about N95's in my post. You're right that you want them for protection with Omicron raging. But you were decidedly not clear in your post and simply said "Masks Don't Work", which is VERY different from "N95's offer sufficient protection from Omicron, and lesser masks do not work as well against it".
. Get some N95's and protect yourself and the people around you when in public - it's that simple.

We've all seen how composed and well put together those people attending the meetings have been.
