I mean, young and healthy people are dying of this too, and in increasing numbers with Delta... In August and September, COVID was the leading cause of death among 35-54 year olds and the #2 cause of death for 25-34 year olds.

What I hope eventually comes out of this is how important (and safe) vaccines are.

Rank-ordering isn't a particularly useful statistic. It's like saying "getting attacked by a shark is more common than getting struck by lightning."

When it's #1 and #2 it's meaningful. It's ahead of heart disease for the 35-54 age group and ahead of cancer for the 25-34 age group. Those numbers aren't trivial like getting attacked by a shark and getting struck by lightning.

All of this is anecdotal, and there are *not* plenty of studies showing the cloth masks provide some but very little protection. In fact, just the opposite.

Covid spreads through droplets, which is why the cloth masks work for it.
Covid does not spread by droplets, It is an aerosol, that is why it's so transmittable. this is also why most masks are completely useless.

You know what's funny?

we could drill down and determine whether the majority who died from Covid that were young were healthy or not…I think that was the main point of the previous/original posts? I may have missed some of the conversation?

I kinda feel that we have gone down this road though.

That is a great message and is not this only one nor a reason against attempting mitigation. I don't think there is an end all be all to a Novel virus as there are millions of people no matter how much they would try to live healthy lifestyles, their bodies are not going to do well defending against current known variations of this virus.
And future variants most likely. 80% of your immune system is in your gut. What you eat matters.

This is a terrible graph. It has no context

Incorrect. It spreads through both. Droplets tend to be more concentrated and the primary form of transimission. The aerosolized virus particles tend to be less concentrated than the droplets.
That does not agree with most of the studies or data I have seen, Can you point me towards where you are getting your data?

I am actually pro mask for myself - I have to wear one for work and still throw one on at the store because, whatever, it’s not a big deal to me. That said, I do have a hard time with mandatory mask requirements when people are allowed to wear cloth masks. Then it does seem like more of an exercise in “prevention theater”. If people really care that much about even a very small mitigation of threat then, by that logic, they should care a lot about type of mask. In my experience this is almost never the case - it’s more a false sense of security thing and the data doesn’t matter all that much.
This.

The cloth masks combined with the arbiturary indoor-dining-no-mask stuff......... THis is why people don't want to follow the rules. They make no sense the way they are written. If we had done logical things from the beginning (n-95 masks required.... not pieces of fabric) then I think people would have respected the rules a lot more.

Those masks weren’t available at the beginning. Also, they are difficult to wear so compliance would have been much lower overall.

Where are people getting the idea that cloth masks don’t work? Try spitting through your mask and see how many droplets get through. It absolutely helps in holding spread closer to the individual.

Great masks work!!

My vaccine works better.

Luckily even though I live in a “blue” state with a mask mandate, the places I frequent such as the gym have chosen to not enforce the mandate.

Shockingly everyone is still alive.

I guess a bunch of healthy vaccinated people don’t have much to worry about.

Similar scenario in my "blue" state. Went to Lowe's today and there was me and 3 others wearing masks, the 50 other customers were not. Even saw 2 employees without them. No one said anything, of course. I think they have just give up bothering. I will continue to follow the rules, as I'm not going to be "that guy" as much as I dislike it.

I know transportation requires folks to wear masks. Anyone know if the Skyliner is letting more than just one party in a gondola yet?
