I hear the Cruse lines are happy w/ their bookings -- I imagine Disney's biggest issue would be children as currently there is no vaccine for anyone under 16.

I think the thing that has me wondering about mask in general is that I've heard the US is awarding out some good $$ for a better mask design. I guess that could just be smart planning in case of a COVID2*, but I also assume they know more than I ever will know about the virus.

Anyway, with double mutated variants already in the US (CA has seen the one first spotted in India), I certainly fear that the virus still has the upper hand (especially if so many are just going to not get vaccinated).
So we’re all going to die or live in fear our whole life...?

There have definitely been 3 waves over here in the US, at least as to how its appeared to me (and others I'm sure) as time has gone on. Coming over the crest of each of those was the hope that "we're past the worst of it". As to whether or not this current uptick constitutes a real "wave" is clearly up for debate though.

The "1st wave" was notable for its high death rate.. the "2nd wave" was more notable for its case count versus the case count for the "1st wave". The "3rd wave" is notable for both.

You’re heading for a fourth then? Ouch.
Mainland Europe is getting a bad third. And then there’s Brazil and India etc. This isn’t over worldwide by any stretch. Sadly.

I must have missed when the requirement went away for masks while seated dining but not actively eating. There was a big hubbub about it around mid February.
We went the second week of march and we never had to keep masks on at a restaurant once we sat down. No one ever said a word about it and no one at any restaurant followed that rule that we saw. You wore a mask while you were away from your table only. If seated at the table the mask could be off and no one ever tried to enforce the 'not actively eating' rule. We have been 4 times since July and have never worn a mask after we sat at our table until we got up to leave, no issues any time.

I disagree with this decision, but I’m also not in charge!

I’m glad vaccines are widely available in most places. Let’s hope that WDW can soon host entertainment again!
I have to ask. Why do you disagree with this decision? There's really no reason to require masks outdoors at all. This new policy is very limited and only applies while taking photos while stationary, outdoors and distanced from others.

Why do people have to be either living in fear of COVID or living in fear of a "piece of cloth?" Being dismissive doesn't further reasonable discussion.

When mask-wearing and social distancing were the only ways to protect against the virus, they were both reasonable and effective. As more people get vaccinated, they will still be reasonable because there's no way to tell who is vaccinated and who is not. But their effectiveness is decreasing.

When you have an unvaccinated person ordering food from an unvaccinated server, masks provide some degree of protection even in light of the limited contact. But when you have a vaccinated diner ordering from a vaccinated server during a one-minute transaction, masks are not doing anything. It can be argued that requiring masks is reasonable based on the logistics of enforcement, but there is no question that their effectiveness is nil. I didn't think this would become an issue so soon, with most people still unvaccinated, but it looks as though it is.
