It may not make sense to have masks in a few places but not otherwise, but is it honestly a big deal?

If you really dislike masks, just be happy they're mostly gone.

I spent five days at Disneyland before the requirement ended and so only having to wear a mask for a few modes of transport seems like such a minor inconvenience, when I was there at the point where I had to wear one for extended indoor queues.

Not that I found it to be a big deal, but the current requirements is such a minor thing compared to what it was just a couple of months ago.
Is it a big deal to wear a mask for a few minutes on a bus? No. But that's not the correct question and is irrelevant. The government should not be imposing on people, even in a minor way, if there is not a reasonable justification for it. Absolutely no one believes that after spending all day in close quarters with people in a crowded theme park without a mask that you are somehow made safer by putting a mask on for the 10 minute ride back to your hotel. It is pointless. And, therefore, it should be lifted, regardless of how little of an inconvenience it is to people.

But this isn't about government putting in a rule for theme parks, this is government putting in a rule for all public transpiration and a theme park just happens to be getting caught up in it. Yes, the theme park example is pointless, but it's not necessarily pointless in other scenarios.

It’ll be nice when the last few mandates are finally gone and masks are just a memory. I haven’t worn a mask in about 2 months and the thought of wearing one for 5 hours on a flight to Florida sounds awful, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker if we found a cheap flight but it’s something I hope to never have to do again.

It is minor. More of an annoyance or super minor inconvenience. I just sang at a funeral with a mask willingly. That wasn't even a huge deal. It will be nice to go about without worrying did I drop one or have to be that guest that needs to grab one for free at the monorail station. Nothing else.

Good example of why blanket, one size fits all, polices are silly.

That's interesting. You had to keep the mask on while singing? I've always seen speakers or singers remove them during the time they were speaking or singing.

Yes... this is something as a cantor I've done most of the pandemic off and on. When I am requested to wear a mask it stays on. They don't know me outside of a face and a voice and frankly I don't know them that well usually. I've done solo work without masks and with. There was a time when no masks were allowed to be removed period. I have learned how to tie a surgical one to allow for better breathing and little to no gapping. I wore a mask for all group singing up until we left for spring break. Our diocese removed for all the week we were living it up in Disney. Though our communion ministers still wear when people come up to them.

Not my favorite thing to do but if grieving or celebrating a wedding I follow their rules. I'm hired to do as they wish :)

Just one of many examples.

Thank you for the example. You and I are never going to see eye-to-eye on masks or probably any aspect of Covid response. And I don't want to annoy the moderators by rehashing the same issues again after they've asked folks not to. So I'm just going to say thank you and leave it at that.

We can agree to disagree no issues on that. Just know that some choirs heard of this or others - long and short we know of a former choir member who moved and had a similar thing happen - and we began to look the reality of it. Unlike regular actions, singing produces 77% aerosols than speaking. As someone who is big into music obviously we took it seriously. Losing choir members to covid took its toll on us. Our diocese had rules we had to follow as well.

So while you may have not seen it, we had no choice at times. Enjoying singing was something I was glad to get back. We were not allowed in church singing for a year outside of single cantors at times. That was so hard. So thank you for asking and being polite about it all.

a personal aside, I don't like singing with masks much at all, but not singing was worse.

I didn't say it was a big deal.
It is however a stupid deal.
Doing stupid things that have no actual impact, and completely contradict other behavior that is allowed is well... Stupid.

Precisely.
Well, a brand new variant was just discovered in the UK and so far not too much is known about it. If I was in close proximity with hundreds of people, with their state or country unknown and their vaccination status unknown, be it on a monorail or on line for Space Mountain , I'd feel more comfortable if everyone was taking sensible masking precautions, but that's just me. I know this whole thread goes freaking bonkers if someone has the audacity to suggest "better safe than sorry". However, that didn't become a famous proverb for no reason.

What variant? XE?

Just one of many examples.

The assumption being made here is that had these people worn masks - but engaged in the exact same behavior - the rate of illness and death would have been much lower.
We have absolutely no evidence of that.
