I believe people complain louder than cheer online. Also each of these companies previously said they were following CDC guidelines in their reopening, so it's not crazy for Disney to do so now. I don't fault the others for not following suit, but Disney provided cover should they have chosen to follow.

We are considering cancelling the universal portion of our upcoming trip but I want to see how this plays out in real life with real crowds first.

Bureaucrats panicking is reason behind this, according to CDC this is because of 2 things.

1) the new bedford cluster.

2) reports of delta overwhelming an obscure India produced vaccine which was shown to have minimal effectiveness against the original covid-19.

On the new bedford cluster no science was done like a serum antibody test to make sure the vaccine administered was indeed effective. As anyone following the story knows there WERE bad batches of vaccine produced, yes they were caught but did some actually get administered or was good vaccine spoiled by improper handling.

and the return to masks will make the anti vaxxers dig their heels in even more.

when you say follow the science, actually do the science not say I’m a scientist and you must do what i say because i know im right.

Don’t do the hoax thing, Bud.

its not a conspiracy…infections and hospitalizations are way up…especially in unvax zones …and breakthrough infections are being found.

they had a few on Royal Caribbean this week in the Bahamas - for example.

work the problem…don’t foretell of the boogeyman

Look, I’m sure Disney did not want to bring masks back but they probably felt they had no other choice. The media attention on them, not the other parks down the street.

Right now Florida is a dumpster fire of Covid. I’m on the gulf coast and I have had a lot of friends and acquaintances catch Covid in the past three weeks. This includes two deaths and one person in the ICU who probably isn’t going to make it. They all had one thing in common. They all were unvaccinated. How do I know this? They all were vocal about not getting it.

Disney will lift the masks once this wave passes. Let’s just get through this.

That's very sad. And the unvaccinated are filling up the local hospitals and the ones who are vaccinated are having challenges getting treatment in a timely manner if they need care in the hospital.

I have a feeling the cdc and then Disney are going to keep masks recommended and required now for a longer time than we want

The one who is in the ICU was posting anti vaccine stuff on Facebook before she caught it.

My cousin in Wisconsin had a confirmed breakthrough infection which he claims to have gotten on an airplane. His symptoms? He had a runny nose for a couple days.

The CDC and media should be publicizing the breakthrough cases like your cousin's instead of suggesting that breakthroughs are just as bad as infections in the unvaccinated. I know that's not what they said but when you say things like breakthrough infections have the same viral load as infections in the unvaccinated, that's how it gets perceived and leads to an attitude of "the vaccines don't work."

The messaging should be that for 95% of people (or whatever the actual number is), being vaccinated makes your worst case scenario for COVID to be like a bad cold for a few days.

I’m also going to say this will happen again and come back around next year around this time too (prior to mid term elections)
The CDC is recommending it only for areas of high and substantial transmission. Eventually the numbers are going to come back down. Delta will eventually run out of people to infect.

I don’t think Disney will keep the masks longer than needed, especially if all of their competitors aren’t.

and then there will be another panic over something or a new variant. Covid isn’t going away and many will never get the jab

I was listening to a recent episode of This Week in Virology and the doctor they were interviewing says they never use the "b-word" (breakthrough) in his house, because it really isn't being used appropriately. There needs to be a higher bar for what is considered a breakthrough. I read an article recently that suggested it shouldn't be considered a breakthrough unless it causes lower respiratory symptoms.

Las Vegas, the king of all buffets has a two hour time limit in select hotels. I can't see myself eating for two hours, maybe an hour than an hour to digest the food and an after diner decaf coffee. Boma is my favorite WDW buffet and I can eat my share there.
I miss Boma......I have even made a few of their recipies, but it's not the same.....;)

We are going next week and I have been trying to convince myself masks won’t be a big deal. I had to wear it at work again starting yesterday and was reminded how much I really do not like them at all. My kids (10,12) and wife do not mind them and still want to go, but I do not want to wear one, especially while on an expensive vacation. Anyone else struggling with the decision to keep or postpone their trip?
If I already had a vacation scheduled, I wouldn't cancel for a reinstated indoor mask requirement.
I probably wouldn't cancel a trip for a reinstated outdoor mask policy either, but I wouldn't book a trip while outdoor masks are required.
I could "deal" with indoor mask, even though I'm highly skeptical of how effective they are under a variety of circumstances.
