Wow. this is ridiculous
Bottom line someone (most likely a few someones) was\were grossly negligent.

Once security was informed of what happened a call should have been placed to the captain.
Captain holds everything. That ship stays right where it is until everything gets sorted out. There should be a procedures in place for this sort of thing.

Granted there would have been a lot of p*ssed off families when the ship didn't leave on time, but that pales in comparison to what that girl had to go through
not to mention this dude ain't done. That wasn't his first time and sure as ship ain't his last time. He should be in custody right now awaiting trail in FL. End of story.

BTW - @I_heart_Tigger your posts shook me up a bit. I'm doing some reading from some of the links in them right now, and I'm stunned. I had NO IDEA.
You know It's amazing a person can get to 44 years old and still be as naive as a new born when it comes to some things. Good god.

It's crazy isn't it. You only hear of the small percentage that make big news. People get lulled into a false sense of security because they feel like a confined space is more secure but you just don't know who you're traveling with - crew and passengers alike.

If my child or grandchild were molested on a cruise ship before it even left port there is no way we would be on that ship when it set sail, especially knowing the pedophile was still out there somewhere. If they wouldn't let us off, they'd be calling the police to arrest me!

Yes, definitely. And if my cell phone still worked there, which I assume it would, I would call 911 myself right there on the spot. A good thing to do no matter what, wherever abuse occurs. You don't tell the people in charge, you go right to the police, whether it's a school, wherever. 911.

I'm new around here. Is it standard practice to just insult people instead of having an honest discussion?

No it's not, and I've found that people are generally pretty reasonable and intelligent on here (compared to the Disboards which I can't seem to post on without getting in a fight in about one minute). You can also "Ignore" if you want by clicking on a username. That can help too sometimes if there is just something you are clashing with.

Disney defends its decision to financially facilitate the perp's return home based on its employment contracts. I don't have a copy of the contract at issue, but doesn't common sense suggests that the perp's (alleged) behavior probably constituted a breach of that contract?

If it's like any of the ships I worked on the employee actually technically paid his own way home. When you sign the contract it states a wage and a small portion of that is held back to cover traveling expenses back home. The money likely came from the employees own wages and DCL paid it from the amount he had banked.

If you want action taken while at Disney (World or ship), the best thing to do is to call the police yourself. Disney tries like crazy to avoid involving the police.

Since 911 is only the emergency number in Canada and the US that may not be the best course of action. You'd be better off finding the emergency numbers of the places you travel to and use those instead.

I wasn't being insulting. It was a statement of fact - anyone who thinks, as that poster did, there was no time to stop the ship from leaving port is quite literally delusional.

The ship can be stopped any time, including after it departs, so it can certainly be stopped before it departs when there is accusations of and - in this case - even evidence of a felony assault on child.

Charge Disney with obstruction of justice. Disney knew about it, and they delayed reporting so the media would not get hold of it when the arrest would draw attention. As far as I am concerned the child molester should have been stabbed in the neck and thrown overboard.

One thing I am still wondering about is why it took 3 hours to haul the guy in. They are in a confined space and I would think should have been able to locate him fairly quickly.

Also, I wonder if this will cause DCL to change any of its policies about kids being able to check themselves out of the kid's clubs. My daughter is not old enough for that yet, but I remember thinking the age was a little low, around 11 or 12 I think.

Does anyone know, is this guy on a cruise line blacklist hopefully? Does the cruise industry have one; you know like casinos do?

shookie,

you'd be surprised by how much society doesn't really want to hear about csa (child sexual abuse), especially when it's about male children being abused. as I am a survivor of csa, I can give all kinds of information that would surprise everyone. statistics state that 1-4 females are abused before age 18 and 1-6 males are abused before age 18. I can definitely tell you that, for males, that number is probably closer to females at 1-4. reason being is that MOST males are told to not show emotions, not talk about their feelings, not share their troubles and so on. if a male child gets hurt they are to just shrug it off and go on. that a male is supposed to be "tough" and just accept it. that a male is considered "lucky" if he gets sexually abused and so on... it's sickening. just like this story.. it's sickening...

Sadly I have to agree with you and say that you're numbers are probably more accurate. I'm sorry that BS had to touch your life.
We have very close friends of the family that went through it with one of their boys and a babysitter in their own house. effed up is what is.

Indeed. Not only that but there is plenty of time to turn the ship around when it's 3, 4, 5 minutes heck 10 , minutes on it's way.

Here's the thing, this isn't a purse snatching it's some sick dude stealing a kid's innocence...and guess what now's he out in the world and he's going to be doing it again.

These guys absolutely CANNOT help themselves You saw the dude.. mosey into the picture when he saw that little girl alone by the elevator? He's done this sort of thing before.. -- it's a sickness --and unfortunately there is no cure.
It's big stuff and the whatever this guy does next should be on the conscious of every person that had a chance to stop this boat from leaving port.

The ship was still docked in Florida I thought? But yes, I was referring to the U.S. I don't know what you do if you are out in international waters.
You report the crime to the proper authorities.

Or you don't report it and pay for the criminal's safe passage home.

I guess the difference depends on whether you're more interested as being viewed as a decent company or actually being one.
