Disney is relaxing the guidelines on the “Disney Look” for Cast Members

Thank you. I think about her sometimes. Both of her parents were deceased at the time she passed. She only had her grandmother and fiancée at the time. I hope they’re both doing well.

Disney definitely treats their employees like trash. I’ll never work for them again.
OMG she had a fiance. that must have been sooo hard for that person. i cant imagine losing my future wife in that way. i don't have a fiance but a girlfriend and if i lost her in that manner i would lose my mind in grief. i am so sorry again for how that happened. How could Disney be soo cold hearted to one of their own who had to wear a cast in order to heal?? So shocking.

Photos can indeed say a thousand words.

Space Mountain CMs in the late 1970s , and a more recent Space Mountain CM.

What those pictures prove is the stereotype that Disneyland's tour guides are about the last vestige of old-fashioned "Disney Look", as we apparently call it now.

Those Disneyland tour guides are always so well turned out, so nicely made up and coiffed, so pressed and neat looking. Somehow that one little group has maintained the old 20th century standards that made Disneyland so famous.

I wonder how long they can keep it up? And what makes them so different to the rest of the Disneyland CM's that often look noticeably sloppier and poorly groomed. Even at WDW their tour guides don't look nearly as good as the Disneyland guides. What's the secret there?

And again I worry, how long do we think they can keep it up before they fall victim to the sloppy look of their fellow CM's?

I think what really throws off the Space Mountain comparison photo is that the costume went from being cute albeit dated and very 70s to an ugly lame drab costume that wouldn't look good on anyone. The modern CM does have more practical hair styling opposed to the overdone hair of the old school chicks, which looks like they spent two hours styling just to put people on a roller coaster with a chocolate cookie projected on the roof.

It is a company like any other. We tend to forget it is a business in the hospitality/entertainment industry. All they will care is the bottom line.

Excuse me for not accepting your cynical view of the world. Just because its a business does not mean people dont come first.

Saturday afternoon, I was working the AnaheI'M First booth at the Anaheim Fall Festival and Parade. Across the way, the Disneyland VoluntEARS were manning another booth. So we were talking to each other during the day. At one point, Justin and Rafa came over. They were on duty, clearly wearing their name tags and Ambassador pins on their Sports Coats. Their other attire was a nice T shirt (not matching), Jeans and comfortable shoes. Rafa wore this outfit during the parade sitting next to Mickey Mouse in a horse drawn carriage.

The other CM's in the parade weren't much better. The Circle D folks looked nice, but the three CM's on Poop Patrol were just in casual street clothes and wearing their name tags.....

It is not a cynical view of the world. Just because we love the product, doesn't mean that the company does not focus on the bottom line. It is a basic concept of keeping a business going. If WDW thought of people first, they would pay their CMs better, they would offer better benefits, and they would even offer a sliding scale for entry so ALL families could experience WDW if they wanted to within their means to spend.

Getting drug tested by the employer but CA law allows person to smoke legally in the privacy of your home? Slippery slope.
Not really. Zoos do not allow their employees to be smokers at all. They do random nicotine screenings and have a zero tolerance policy. People can smoke in the privacy of their homes and have for decades. But the zoo's policy says, "Not if you work here." Many people have to relinquish some of their personal preferences and 'rights' to work for a particular company. If people don't like the restrictions they can work elsewhere or for themselves.

Wouldn't that be nice if all companies required that. It would get rid of the jerk millennial with the vape stick outside the front door of the office.

The idea that thinking of people is somehow incompatible with making money is just hogwash. A lazy way to rationalize poor behavior.

They are not incompatible. But a global business like WDW focuses on the bottom line as a publicly traded company with shareholders. As such, low-level employees tend to be expendable and easily replaceable. Just because you like their product, you should not be blinded by what they are at the end of the day--a conglomerate which goal is to make money.

Being a conglomerate or publicly traded is still just excuses.

Ok. You're expressing your opinion, I'm stating facts. And since you don't know my business background, nor I know yours, we can leave it at that.

Where are the facts, and where are your sources to back up your so-called facts? Are the metrics even measurable?

I don't think you're wrong, but I also don't think the posters challenging your claims are necessarily wrong either.

This is when I step away. Way too busy to continue the chat.

Kinda of funny...when I used to tell my teacher I was too busy to "show my work" on how I came up with the answer I would get those questions marked wrong. 😂
In 30 days is my trip, and I will no longer be using this board. I'm not in the cult of Disney, and accurate statements are always taken like an insult to WDW.

You can just admit that you're not willing to back up your claims with real evidence, honestly. There's no shame in keeping an open mind, just don't claim facts are on your side when it's clearly subjective.
