Disney Giveth, and Disney Taketh Away

  • Rivers of America boat cuts (2 boats to one, smokestacks, paddlewheels)

This should be two bullet points. The Fowler Riverboat was a permanent cut from ROA.

The Empress Lilly at the Marketplace lost its smokestacks and paddle wheel. Not sure if it was the exact time Fultons came in or not. It really is an eyesore...

And I think were missing some Canoes from the list.

Waterskiing shows, which were prominent in the 1970s on the Seven Seas Lagoon. I have old family pictures of Goofy skiing along with the waterskiers, doing jumps and making pyramids.

That used to be a staple of Florida tourism, especially popular at the old Cypress Gardens down the street from WDW. And when they opened WDW, with its hotels surrounding the lake, they included a waterskiing show on the beach. It was fun, and should still be there. Check it out.

I think one of the problems with this type of entertainment now at WDW is that, like the monorail and leisurely fishing and swimming in the lakes, as well as some park atmosphere performers, they have trouble figuring out how to make money directly off of it. But it definitely was fun and added to the place as a complete resort.

like I said back on page one.. if you don't set a timeframe for this.. you'll be swimming in stuff and can't really make a valid picture from it. Too much info, not concise.

50's Prime Time:
I miss the super soft napkins, the free soup or salad with the meal, the Christmas decorations that were spread throughout the restaurant.

Caribbean Beach Resort: used to have many more lit up garlands around the whole parking lot at Christmas - not just near the check in

Rumor has it that the Possum is back on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad today. This info coming from "Imagineer6"

The Tiki Room roof was designed so the water buffalo atop it could be read as longhorns while in Frontierland.

This is true. At least there was thought put into it back then. It may not be a perfect solution, but it does make it less obvious....unlike just painting the side of a building Kelly Green and hoping the pine trees will hide it.

WOW! The list is getting long! This would be awesome to attach dates and pics to make a cool decay timeline.

I dont think Grad Nites have been mentioned

Ummmm....I'd venture to say that most people over the age of 18 would not consider the loss of Grad Nites to be a decline ;) In fact, I would consider that a "Giveth" :D

Im sure the cast that had to work them work agree as well. The thing is, the decision was made due to the capacity issues at the MK and the headaches, not because they were looking to enhance anyone's guest experience or CM morale.

And speaking of CM morale, Im pretty sure they used to have the CM Christmas parties at the MK like they still do at DL which was a cut. And, in its place, you got a coupon booklet entitling you to cheaper purchases once a year at the "company store."

I cant imagine that private event cancellation being a giveth for anyone, other than the exec who got a higher bonus that year.

Right. The event is gone in part because the attendees abused their privileges (i.e. acted like high schoolers). Definitely not something I'd put on the list of things Disney has taken away from us to cut costs.

Bummer about the Christmas parties for the cast.

Wow. Well, I see the doom & gloom club has made their way over to General Dicussion.
Sigh.....

It took until Post 249 to find this thread? :p

AA's were outsourced to Garner Holt.

But is that really a negative? As discussed in other threads, almost all of Disneyland's original ride systems were technically outsourced. We won't know if this is a bad thing until we see AAs produced by Holt vs AAs we assume were created in house.

You know, you can always read the hundreds of pixie dust laced posts on this site...

Yes, shocking how people actually enjoy wdw, and come to this site to talk about how much they enjoy it.

While I don't turn I blind eye to the things that have changed for the worst in wdw, that doesn't mean all of a sudden it's this awful place for me. If it's so bad, I don't know why you would go, nor why you would waste your time on a wdw fan site talking about how bad it is. Other people may say that type of argument is a cop out by a pixieduster. Well, it's the same logic you just used telling the so called "pixiedusters" ignore this thread and read the other "positive" threads instead. So I'm not sure why the doom and gloomers just don't go to wdw, because there are other places out there to visit that may bring them more enjoyment.

And I know this opinion will get shut down by the d&gs but I feel while everyone is free to do as they please, this type of thread belongs on wdwtragic.com, not wdwmagic.com

Someone's panties got twisted... relax.

No one said people can't enjoy WDW or come here to talk about it... The person I responded to made a point to call out a thread that details everything that WDW has taken away over the years... If he/she didn't like the topic, they could have moved on without commenting... There are 1000's of extremely positive posts here, more to the his/her liking... So, go read those if you don't want to read about the things we have lost in WDW...

I thought I was pretty calm buddy. And I already assumed people would not agree with me, which I could care less about.

But you claim that people who don't agree with a topic, are now not supposed to comment on it and just move on? That doesn't make sense, because if you find something wrong with WDW, such as some things listed on the thread, you're just supposed to ignore them and move on? It seems like this thread is pointing out a lot of things that are wrong with WDW. So if someone doesn't agree with the topic, they don't have a right to say it? As I said, everyone can do as they please. But this type of negative topic sticks out like a sore thumb on a site primarily dedicated to the fans of wdw who truly enjoy spending their time there. So that is why they comment, and comment in opposition to the theme of the thread. And again, I feel this topic would fit better if you made a wdwtragic.com website.

His or her post added nothing to the conversation... it was simply a trolling comment... There are other comments in here that disagree with some of the things listed... His or her comment was nothing more than to incite an argument... If he or she disagreed with something, state so and why... don't bring out the doom and gloom name calling... If you have something to ad, then post... Don't resort to the name calling/labeling...

And as far as you go, you don't like it when people call you all pixie dusters, then refrain from calling others doom and gloomers... Funny, you didn't jump on him or her when he called people in this thread D&G'ers...

Nope. I could care less what I'm called. It doesn't bother me.

But it is ironic that you want me to jump on someone for bringing up the d&g name, yet you think it was a trolling comment, and you think there are other pixie dust laced threads on the site. That's what I find funny.

But we could drag this on and on, going back and forth with the name calling but I don't have time for that. Truth is it happens on both sides. But I won't prolong this. I will let you go back to your list of downgrades in wdw without anymore pixiedust interruptions.

It's still so funny to me how up in arms people get over Disney. We all need to relaaaaaaax. At the end of the day, it's just a theme park.

Sidenote: saw a comment about how lazy Disney is now by painting show buildings green and putting trees in front of them to hide them. Hate to break it to you, but that's been done since day one.

Chapter 72-Costuming cost cutting

First WDW Jungle Cruise got Kilmanjaro Safari costumed, then One Disney made sure DL followed suit. Of course, Tokyo still employs real skipper costumes.

AK custodial used to have unique costumes but were discontinued to the blue/yellow WDW ones. Now all of WDW is transitioning to DLs maroon ones.

CMs used to sign out costumes daily and get paid for changing time, now they take them home and most CMs launder them for the company.

As a guest, you now get to see Main St engineers pumping gas at Hess.

A) "it's just a theme park"? No, that would apply to Six Flags or Kings Island. No Disney park is "just a theme park". They set their own bar high, and unfortunately have been gliding under it with room to spare for the last several years.

B) Your sidenote is also untrue. Dumbo is the first time they've plopped a show building into the inner portion of the park and did not theme all exposed sides. The HM building is green, but until they messed with things recently, it was completely hidden from view. Dumbo's show building could have received a bit more love. Heck, they spent probably $100,000 on faux rockwork "bridges" on the east side of the new LM facility to "theme" the view over the new backstage gates and between the Circus tents. If they'd do that, why wouldn't they at least paint circus stripes or something thematic on the other 3 sides of Dumbo? Makes no sense.
