Disney Finally Squashes Illegal Kiddie Gambling

When we were there last week, I didn't see any games within the arcade at the area you come out of the walkway. Perhaps they were further back?

4 more days at most for the other arcades. 2/15 is the day they close.

While the reasoning for this closing is absurd, I'm completely fine with that arcade being taken out. If I'm paying $100 to get into a theme park, I sure as hell don't want to pay extra to play "claw" games or air hockey. I can stay at my hotel on 192 for that kind of entertainment.

My thoughts exactly.my kids would always ask to go in and I would always say. No, we just paid $$$ to get in this park. We are not going to play at an arcade for half the day. Glad there is now a chance to use it for something better, anything would be better. Merch shop or some sort of quick service/get out of the rain place. I like the windows that look out at the steam train though. Here's to hoping they keep the structure and interior features mostly intact.

Personally, I'd rather be stuck in a frozen sing-a-long than an arcade at anywhere in WDW. BTW, I don't like sing-a-longs either...

In order to sell merchandise, people have to want the merchandise.

Ergo, providing the merchandise is giving the people what they want.

;)

Those games are "operated by coin(cash)" but yes they are over they 75cent price limit I suppose. Will be interesting to see the ripple effect.

The midway games of chance do not fall under this new law's definition of what's regulated. No change here when it comes to legalities or not.

Arcades in the U.S. are dying for the most part, besides Dave & Busters type places, and the Tomorrowland one didn't have anything new made within 10 years anyway.

I didn't think people actually cared about the tickets. Was that really the thing that drove profits? I always gave the tickets to kids. Now they are all recorded on the cards. Just put a sign up that says points aren't redeemable anymore. Boardwalk had a bunch of those prize games -- but hardly anyone was doing it and it's expensive.

Very true. I did actually write that but deleted it in fear of being called a pessimist.

The last time I was in the actual arcade a few years back I witnessed a drug deal. Won't miss the place.
Perhaps somebody was selling their tickets instead of drugs? Just a thought!

Just tear it down and open up the original view of the mountain again.

One can dream.

Surprised more people aren't saying this as this was my first reaction. Have always hated that building with BAH fervor.

And if the building itself wasn't bad enough, the most mundane occupant of every dilapidated mall and convenience store - the lowly arcade - had to fill the space at the end of Space.

I'm super bummed out about this. My gf and I used one of the photo booths there the first time I took her to Disney(and her first trip) and each time I've taken her down again we've taken pictures at the same booth. I know there will be other booths there but its a shame that little tradition is gone
