Disney dumping McDonald's...great decision

This is the problem with America today. We always have to blame others for our own mistakes. I'm slightly overweight, am I blaming my parents, mcdonalds or Coca-Cola? NO! It's your own fault in most cases.

No one ever held a gun to my head and forced me into the McDonalds drive-thru. The people who are overweight are responsible for their own actions, not the companies who sell fatty foods.

People have to take responsibility for their own actions, and that includes going to McDonalds too much.

Just heard this AM that Disney is dropping partnership with McDonald's. I could not think of a wiser corportate move to keep the image of kid friendly. McDonald's and their ilk are almost singlehandedly responsible for the epidemic of childhood obesity and many of the early heart problems we are seeing in adults...harsh, I know, but hard to refute!!

Out of curiosity, what do you feel you are responsible for? Or is everything bad that happens to you someone else's fault?

You would be suprised of all the stuff that is in those fries that can kill you. Trans fat, MSG, tons of sodium. I just started eating healthier myself so you get temptations from eating all that MSG. But I feel alot healthier from just a week of eating healthier food.

Understood - but as with all things - moderation is the key!

Fried foods such as those from McDonald's are found all over the world, yet the rest of the world does not have the obesity problem that we have in the USA.

In my travels I've found that the primary difference is that we eat more "bad" foods, and have severely less physical activity. As an example, last summer I was in Rome for a week. In that time I ate what we would consider "bad" foods, lots of cheese, fatty things, but I walked many, many miles every day. The result? I lost weight.

I think blaming McD's for childhood obesity is like blaming Ford for a flat tire you got when you drove over road spikes. In both cases, the vendor is not responsible for the user action.

Well, that certainly got a rise out of some folks!!!

Could not agree more with the need to take responsibility...just wish everyone could do it as well as you and hopefully me most of the time.

It just doesn't work that way sometimes...I have been a big brother for many years and that sure doesn't make me an expert, but I have seen so many kids who never knew there was a choice and fast food was all that was there.

I truly believe they developed almost an addiction to McD's. And the whole "supersize" thing in the last few years is a calorie and fat disaster.

We all cave into advertising whether it be cosmetics, cars, TV's, beer, or soda pop. My only point is that McD's has spent billions to hook kids. Once hooked, habits die hard.
Peace...and I, too, cannot believe the lines at the french fry cart at Disney!!

I love the spin disney put on this story. Mcds had put out a press release sometime ago about them not renewing their contract with disney.

That's still not McDonald's fault. You can't blame them for the decisions we make. And as far as kids are concerned. It's the parents. Kids cant drive themselves toMcDonalds but parents can. If McDonalds didnt hook people they'd be out of business. I love BigMacs, but do I eat them all the time? No. It's peoples choices that effect them.

i'd like to take this opportunity to blame EVERYONE else for everything that's wrong with me.

SHAME ON YOU for making me an overweight, bald, nearsighted, short, neurotic, sarcastic, unfashionable, bad-spelling, disney addict, geek! You should all be ashamed of yourselves!!!

If we are going to argue about the obesity epidemic I'd like to throw in that I feel the biggest contributer to the general public is the Soda companies as well as their ties to the ff industry-think about it. Years ago McD's and the rest had 3 sizes 12oz small, 16oz med,20oz lrg-compared to 20,32,44oz sizes now!Considering 120-160 EMPTY SUGAR calories per 8oz serving then factor in the popularity of 20oz and 32oz plastic bottles over 12oz cans which were the norm before as well as the insane fountain drinks at gas stations. The Double Gulp at 7-11 typically has over 1000 calories! Now the big water craze is in full swing but the soda companies in general love that too because they own several big brands and they are selling you soda minus the flavoring for the same price if not MORE. I love soda too but I am very careful how much I drink and I amvery aware how rich these companies are selling their unhealthy product.

Actually its McDonalds who dumped Disney. Don't think Disney is some hero trying to save Children from getting fat. Mcdonalds got stuck with so many unsold Disney happy meals over the years.

while i was working at wdw, i read this story back in july. as a mcdonalds employee, that is true. once a year, we did a 2 for one toy deal with the happy meals. 2 toys in each bag. there were so many left over toys from the different campaigns, we had to get rid of them somehow.

Interesting take on all this. Don't blame McDonalds, blame yourself. No, blame your parents. You can't blame this or that. How can you blame them?

Many of you are still hung up on one word.... "BLAME". So blaming yourself is better than blaming others? Cool

Well guess what. Your all still relying on "Blame". The damage is done and as we continue trying to identify who is to "Blame", nothing is really getting fixed.

Doesn't it make perfect sense to move away from blame and collaborate on fixing the problem? If McDonalds took equal responsibility as we are, and if they contributed equally to fixing the problem, at the end of the day, wouldn't that be a whole lot more productive than continuing to find who to blame?

Heard a Japanese business proverb once that went something like this. -When something fails, don't exaust energies trying to place blame, rather fix the problem first or it will never get fixed. Then find who's at fault as then now it won't really matter.

I don't know. Makes perfect sense to me...:hammer:

They may be scrapping Mcdonalds but they still serve fast food at the theme parks

Of course they do...people just don't want to admit it. And Disney "fast food" is somehow better for you, more pure, and much more magical while McDonald's is eeeeevillllllll.:snore:

Frankly, after eating Disney "fast food" for a week, I was ready for a Big Mac.:slurp:

What problem is that??? McDonald's has no more of a problem than does makers of beer, Hostess, Lays, or a thousand other food or drink manufacturers. They have zero problem or responsibility...they provide a product that, if consumed responsibly, is enjoyable to some and will not cause any serious health problems. (*Note: Repsonsibly can and may mean not partaking at all)

I totally agree!! I really can't believe it during the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot. Here's a chance to sample food from around the world. Yet, there is a line at the McDonald's Fry Hut. A LINE!!

Ugh!!! Dont remind me.... Twas about 6PM and Im coming from Great Beers around the world... (aka THE FREE BUCKET OF BEER SHOW!!!!) Im a lil tipsy and decide to blurt out

"Cmon people you dont eat enough fries at home?!?! Go get a peroge and some sauerkraut"

Actually the last part was a little muffled from my wifes hand over my mouth.... Oddly enough a young couple like us got out of line and the guy asked me where the peroges (sp) were

5 Months till the Epcot F&WF!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't they just open a new McDonalds Fry area in Disney, I thought I read that in the forums? Not that I care, I usually like the fries that Disney sells better....less greasy.

Then why has McDonalds made some changes to the way the make Fries? Why do they now offer Salads? Why does Lays offer healthier (not healthy) varieties of chips? Low Cal Beer? I'm all for a nice fat Quarter Pounder but shouldn't McDonalds do what they can to make sure that if there are ways to make the Quarter Pounder a little healthier, this would be a huge step in helping the cause from their side?

By no means am I singling out McDonalds, BUT, McDonalds is the corporation we are discussing here...
