I think along with price inflation of goods, services and food, another big part of this 40% increase is probably Genie Plus and Lightning Lane purchases. I think I read that 60%+ of guests are utilizing that service, which is huge to Disney’s bottom line

Folks been saying this since like what 1999. “It won’t last” People can choose not to participate in any recession. Which I agree there is. Or headed to. But there are many ways to save money for whatever one wants. Disney will not see a drop off. It’s only getting started to get back to “ normal”
There are ways to save and invest. Brown bagging and drinking the free coffee at work has saved me approx $4K a year. Will my average peer give up their multiple daily Starbucks fix and 5x a week lunches? Heck no, but complain they can't save money...

It is simple. Many parks are closed and prices have risen a lot. As a result, they got benefits. However, I don't know how the consequences of the recession will be. To my mind, Disney havas become a luxury for rich people. The prices are the double of 2019. DP has disappeared and people have to pay a lot for meals. Additionally, FP are not included and many other things that have changed in these two years. In 2019, I went with my family and I could enjoy my vacation. Maybe, Bob Chapek wants Disney to be visited once, unless you are rich.

Many people will disagree with me. However, I visited Disney more than 15 summers and I can say that many privileges have been reduced. Walt believed that Disney was a place where people can enjoy together. Nevertheless, now it is place in order to pay a huge sum of money.

I'm convinced Starbucks puts cocaine in their coffee. That addiction was hard to break. Sometimes I still get a whiff and am tempted. 🤣🤣

I think this is the one fallacy I wish would go away. Disney was never free, no there was never a time where everyone who wanted to go to Disney could simply pack up and go. My parents couldn't afford it and in fact there was no way we could go until 1990.
No I am not rich, in fact I'm a retiree on a fixed income. I'm planning my Disney vacation for September of 2023. I'll do it the old fashioned way, every month I'll drop some money into savings and since I'm not working it will mean cutting back on other things.

Not sure I would agree. My first trip was in 1974 and we went yearly intil 79 or 80. Believe me, we weren’t a family with money. I asked my dad and he had said it wasn’t expensive and would cost the same as a week down the shore in jerset. But slowly it did get to a point where it started to get that way. Fewer people with low income could only take that every 5 year trip as people with a bit more money started the yearly trips. Now that week down the shore is cheaper. Ebbs and flows. But Disney has far outpaced most vacation spots with increased everything.

The cost of a Disney vacation compared to wages and inflation has been compiled and demonstrated. You choosing to ignore that doesn’t make for a fallacy.

Cutting back on other things is something a number of Americans will not do as an example to pay down debt , save for vacation. What you are doing is admirable.

I used to go to Disney every summer and believe me it is not a fallacy. I remember the first year without DP and prices were high but I can afford to it. Merchandising was really good and if I wanted to have lunch at Cinderella's castle , the portion was great. So, no matter the price because I paid for quality. In addition, prices were reasonable.

Right now, I pay more than two years ago and there is no quality. Moreover , I have to pay for meals more money due to the fact that I don't have DP. Furthermore, I have to pay for FP when it used to be for free.

I think you don't have to judge me because I am cutting back on other things too. However, my wife and I are working and it is really difficult to save money taking into account the inflation and recession. Additionally, we don't live in the lap of luxury. We are normal people and we are not rich.

I wish I could come back soon. Nevertheless, that will be difficult. I suppose rich people will have a great place to enjoy.

Enjoy it Disney, it won't last.

The pent up demand from covid is mostly dried up and with your insane prices and the recession, this earnings report might be the last good one for a while.
You know, I Soooo want to believe you, but Disney seems to be like the Teflon Don of corporations and theme parks…no matter what is predicted, they seem to be insulated from all economic downturns.

Lol, thanks @Lilofan , I can't lay claim to a great example to financial fitness 😅 I've done some boneheaded things with my cash.
I did grow up in a time of patient, we didn't have instant gratification. We had layaway, passbook savings and bankers hours, no instant money.
We also didn't have entitlement issues. We couldn't afford Disney and no one whined that it was supposed to be affordable for everyone. Just a different mentality

I don’t know, 4-6 K for an average week rental at the Jersey shore is nothing to sneeze at…and that’s not the Swan & Dolphin…maybe a little better than Motel 6.
