Disney considering making more themed mod resort rooms (with pics and proof)

very cool....

All the rooms look very cool. Disney could do something like this in every hotel. GF could have Mary Poppins rooms, Contemporary could have WALL-E rooms, etc.

They could also have an entire hotel with movie themed rooms. They certainly have enough movies to choose from. I know the Animation hotel is being built but that's only four movies they are using for inspiration. Which I love, I want to stay there after it opens. But they could have a hotel that's Disney Movie inspired with most of the rooms being themed differently. Just an idea, I'm sure someone will point out the expense or impossiblilty of something like this.

I like the idea and let's face it there are plenty of people willing to pay (and for some it doesn't matter the cost) for an experience like this. :)

They do look really cool though. I'd pick any of those over a plain room any day, as long as it wasn't too much money. Its funny to see the negative comments on here about the rooms themselves. If you're staying on Disney property why wouldn't you want/expect over the top themeing all over?

Disney is about depth of theming, and that is what makes them successful. I don't know if I'd say "over the top" though, because to me that seems more like Vegas-y concept (maybe it applies to Pop or All Stars) but that is not what Disney has always done. I think the village Harambe at AK is a great example of theming by Disney but I don't know if I'd say its "over the top".

As for these rooms, they don't necessarily fit their surroundings that well. They are not southern plantation rooms, or rooms in the French Quarter, they are "Disney" rooms. There is a difference, and not everything has to be so in your face.

And its another example of Disney not actually DOING anything, but trying to squeeze every last drop out of existing popular "franchises".

It's about taking guests surveys and developing it into things they really want. There are a couple thousand rooms on property and many of those won't have a "Disney" theme.

If you haven't noticed already, the HM room idea is getting HUGE kudos on this thread already. There isn't enough HM merchandise to truely satisfy an HM fan like me. So building something like this is a step in the right direction to many of us.

For anyone taking these surveys, its always important to say you like the rooms but not at a big price. If they see people are willing to pay x amount then they'll want x amount plus more and more. Don't let them get too outrageous on costs, especially for something they should have been doing already anyway.

The survey I initially filled out was based on our stay at the Wilderness Lodge, it then specifically asked me if I would answer questions about moderate resorts and they made it very clear this would not be going into any deluxes (which you can also tell by the room layout).

This looks like a great "upgrade" and is already being done with Pirate themed rooms and Princess themed rooms at the Caribbean Beach resort, to much fanfare. Since these are currently $30 extra per night, I strongly believe if (more likely when) Disney expands on this, they will keep regular rooms for those who don't want the extra.

The question is, where are they going to do over the future rooms? Moderate Resorts make the most sense, as Value's are for budget conscious, and Deluxe are already high end. There are also plenty of theme options for Disney to work with. For those that don't like change, there are sure to be plenty of rooms that are still kept "classic".

First, how are people taking this survey? Were they randomly e-mailed, or are they on the site somewhere?

I LOVE the HM rooms. In a room like that, which comes with special effects and moving bookcases, it almost justifies the $30 premium. Something like the royal and pirate rooms, which just have lots of set dressings, justify maybe $5-10.

As for the "scariness" of the HM rooms.....if you think your kids will be too scared, don't book one. It's that easy. Only a small portion of the rooms will be themed, and you will never "accidentally" be assigned one.

I personally think it would be AWESOME to stay in a "haunted" room.

They are getting huge kudos on a Disney discussion board. Here we have many diehard Disney fans. I'm not sure how the casual visitor will feel about this. My group for example (all Disney fans who have been multiple times) felt they were tacky and way over the top. They disrupt the feel and the theming of the resorts.

I would disagree with the "disruption" of the feel and theming at the resorts. The exteriors of the buildings, and the landscaping won't change one bit. Nobody will be the wiser, unless they're staying in one of these rooms.

And if you want to continue to stay at a resort and be fully immersed in it's theme, don't stay in one of these premium rooms. It really is that simple. :)

Exactly. There will still be plenty of "non-themed" rooms available, and an entire new value resort for any not wanting to spend the extra money.

Disney here is seeking to improve on one of the areas in which they still excel over their competition. Nothing wring with that, especially judging by the comments here.....

The footprints on the ceiling are glow-in-the-dark, the Ghost Host will appear in the mirror from time to time and the bookshelf slides aside to reviel the bathroom. Not sure if you can really tell in the photos either but the table is levitating. There is also another table in the room with a crystal ball on it.

I'm surprised no one has posted the Cars or Little Mermaid room photos as well.

This might be a stupid question... But you say the ghost host will appear in the mirror. I wasn't aware we've "seen" the ghost host, unless you consider the raven in the ride.

LOVE these rooms, by the way. Nothing screams "I'm staying at Disney!!" more than sleeping in a HM room. When I'm at WDW, I want to be surrounded by Disney 24/7. What better way than this? And my kids would love it.

This is the kind of thing I approve of Disney using to squeeze a few more bucks out of me.

I have to agree. This isn't something that is going to have some kind of negative effect on the overall property. If you don't like it, you won't ever see it. This isn't like the debate on say, whether The Living Seas should have become all Nemo or not. This will only replace a certain number of rooms, and the majority will still be the standard theme. It's not like people will get these rooms randomly, you'll pay extra for them and be expecting them. I'm sure there will extenuating circumstances every once in a while where Guests will be asked if they'd want a free upgrade, just like in any other situation where the Resort is at full capacity. The only way this could go sour is if Disney decides to theme all rooms in this fashion, which I just simply don't see happening. In reality, this is a big step in Disney's acknowledgement and realization that there is enough of a Disney theme park-specific fanbase out there that would make things like this doable and profitable.

I'm feeling like this has to do much with the new Haunted Mansion movie, so if they make him visible there, then that might be the model for the mirror version. A lot of people say that the Hatbox Ghost may turn out to be the Ghost Host in the movie after all.

I love the haunted mansion room, that is a great idea. The sliding book case is my favorite. I deff would stay in that room! =)

The only bad scenario I can see:

Grand Floridian Hotel Reception Desk:

Me: "I have a reservation for a room"
CM: "Hmm, there was a minor issue with the rooms"
Me: "What do you mean?"
CM: "The room you booked was taken due to a computer error, however we do have a room available...it's themed to Hannah Montana"
Me: "<Darth Vader>NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!</Darth Vader>

Wouldn't it be cool if they added some Enchanted Tiki Room-themed rooms to the Polynesian or some Country Bear Jamboree-themed rooms to the Wilderness Lodge or something?

Those would be pretty neat as well.

I also agree that Port Orleans would be an appropriate place to install those awesome Haunted Mansion-themed rooms. Besides, DL's Mansion is located in New Orleans Square and is themed as a souther plantation house, so why not? Riverside's buildings in particular already resemble southern plantation houses anyway.
