Im wondering if Avatar will be scaled back to put more money into all the DHS overhauls that are (maybe?) coming in the next few years? Considering the whole 'knee-jerk' reaction that led to Avatar, perhaps they will shift funds and just make it another FLE, all looks and very little substance.

It seems that the budget for Pandora (or DAK overall) has been set and won't be affected by happenings at DHS. There was already some budget cuts during the planning stage when a third ride was removed from the plans; I personally would think that Cameron has contractual assurances of a certain threshold of funds and/or specific things to be built and Disney can't unilaterally walk away.

I'm really not worried about the quality of Pandora thanks to Cameron's involvement. I do not see him settling for a weak land with little substance.

But what would you do for a Lion King ride? It lends itself to a show quite well but I can't think how to do a ride based on it. Maybe they just need a new show?

I think a dark ride could work very well. Let's say...a dark ride with water, where we board a boat and travel down a river. It starts out dark, and there's brush and plants on either side, and we see glimmers of eyes and hear crickets, bird calls and other jungle sounds, and then we turn a corner and hear the roars of lions, and suddenly we're in daylight and we see a vista where crowds of animals are surrounding Pride Rock and Rafiki's holding up Baby Simba. Then we pass into a scene where Simba is singing "I Just Can't Wait to be King", with an animal chorus (kind of like the "Under The Sea" scene in the Mermaid ride, but much better done). Then suddenly we turn into the creepy Elephant Graveyard, with sneering hyenas and Scar telling them of his plot to kill Mufasa and Simba. Then we pass into an area of mist, and see Simba standing near the dead Mufasa, and Scar telling him to "Run away, and never return...". We pass into a dark tunnel, and then come into a burst of music and light and see Timon and Pumbaa and Simba singing "Hakuna Matata". Then again we travel though a giant log (the kind that Pumbaa upended in the movie to get at the tasty bugs) and at the other end we find ourselves at the climactic battle scene between Simba and Scar, with fire and a massive lightning storm. And finally we wind up back at Pride Rock, with Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon, and once again Rafiki is holding up the future King while the adoring animals below bow and cheer. The end! :D

P.S. Perhaps parts of the ride could include narration by Rafiki, a la Scuttle in the Mermaid Ride.

How could you skip the scene of adult Simba speaking with Mufasa in the sky? That could be an amazing effect.

...especially since Cameron was not impressed with his first tour of WDW years ago. He fixated on the broken show effects.

Is it just me or did James Cameron CHOOSE Animal Kingdom as the place to build Pandora to begin with ? He could have gone with Universal, or even Sea World, or similar parks ? This makes me wonder WHY he picked Animal Kingdom over all the other parks

But that is a different topic; I for one am excited for what is coming to Epcot; it needs some new stuff, even if its a fake country, get folks into World Showcase!

Rumor is that he approached Universal and they weren't interested. I doubt he choose Animal Kingdom that was probably Disney's choice. The original intention was also not to have it limited to AK at WDW, but to extend it to other Disney locations.

Weren't there some reports suggesting that prior to Frozen getting fasttracked, there were plans and a budget in place for fixing Imagination? That this whole thing is just a repeat of Seas with Nemo?

So it'd be OK if say 10 years from now, Frozen fades away [I know it won't, not hating on it, just going for an example] it'll be OK when they come up with a new ride for Norway and replace Frozestrom? Such as a fun troll movie that is a massive moneymaking hit? Think of the money they can make!

And personally, I'd like an Olaf and Marshmallow meet and greet ... lucky Anaheim

Yeah, but how often do we see that happen? The only reason we got the Tiki Room back is because of a fire. Nemo is still in The Seas almost 10 years on. Nigel Channing is still running Imagination into the ground 16 years on. 1990s Ellen, Trekek, and old-school Jeopardy still sits un-updated in Energy after 18 years. Stitch took over Alien Encounter 11 years ago.

Point is, long after Frozen is no longer the "it" thing, we will still have that IP stuck in Norway where it doesn't belong. I always hate on Nemo, but that ride would be a cute dark ride for a place like Animal Kingdom...just not covering up the country's second largest indoor aquarium. Once changes like this are made, we really don't ever see them un-made.

Can anyone think of any examples like the Tiki Room?

Not that I condone nor suggest any illegal activity...but...if that's what it takes to get Imagination overhauled properly...I say...
