Education in Epcot had a long and storied life, but today slipped away quietly after a long slow decline in health.

Education in Epcot was born in 1966 to Walt Disney, father of many mind boggling and forward thinking achievements. In it's youth, it's father dreamed of a Utopian city, melding some of industry's leaders together to create a new world for the future. Sadly, Education in Epcot's father passed away shortly after it's birth.

As Education in Epcot grew, it realized it's true calling, to bring out the best in human civilization by fostering excitement among people big and small, educating people from all walks of life about the technologies and dreams of the future, as well as exposing people to the global community that would need to come together to make these dreams come true.

During it's teenage years, Education in Epcot contracted a case of malaise brought on by poor decision making from it's new foster parents. Starting in 1994, it started losing some of it's most important fundamental beliefs. It started to lose it's energy and mobility in 1996, it's imagination in 1998, and by late 1999, all of it's dreams of the future crumbled away.

Education in Epcot still maintained a love for foreign travel though, and continued to enjoy life with it's love for cuisine and world music. These loves could only be sustained for so long though, and signs of it's death started cropping up in the past few years. It quietly passed away today, it's last heartbeat frozen in time. It's death was announced in a short statement on social media.

It is survived by it's half-sibling Corporate Greed.

Education in Epcot: 1966 - 2014. Rest in Peace.

Donations can be made in Education of Epcot's honor to local school systems and libraries.

This is an exceptionally thoughtful, well-written post. This post, along with a fitting picture, needs to circulate social media sites for distribution.

CONSPIRACY THEORY ALERT!!!!!!!!
They started with Mexico, moved next door to Norway. Hide the Chinese, they are next!!
I doubt China for World Showcase despite the trend so far on that side of World Showcase. I saying that because the film in China was updated in 2002.

I feel France would be the next target for World Showcase because the film hasn't changed like Norway's film wasn't changed.

I know Disney did add more eating places to France, but who says Disney wouldn't consider changing an attraction for France if it can be done cheaply.

I was fine with all this frozen nonsense. It was were it needed to be. Now its taking over Cinderellas castle, and maelstrom. I am very disappointed in these decision being made at WDW.
Just imagine:
Frozen M&G at Mk
Frozen M&G at Epcot
Frozen castle show at MK
Frozen Ride at Epcot
Frozen in holiday parade
Frozen singalong at DHS
Frozen "outpost" at DHS
Frozen Fireworks at DHS

Im over this, So is my 7 year old niece. Her friends are moving along as well. TDO is a year behind. Destroying Epcot has done it for me. I dont see myself returning within the future.

yeah! my hubby says we are going to pass until at least Avatar and Star Wars are well established.

I think if parents brought their children up to appreciate travel, and the value of learning about the world, then it would 'do it' for kids. All too often nowadays parents are so paranoid about their kids complaining, or being seen as 'bad parents', that they'll kowtow to their every whim and shove an iPad in their faces, instead of letting them discover things for themselves and expand their horizons.

I know I loved World Showcase as a kid, and I can't have been alone. It was amazing to be able to go from one country to another in minutes. I think it's doing the children of today a disservice to say they lack that intelligence and curiosity.

That was my experience as well. I was 12 when EPCOT Center opened, and I fell in love with it immediately.

I bet before the end of the year, they have a reindeer over at AK named Sven. Seems like success is so rare for Disney lately that they don't know how to properly manage it when it happens.

Stupid planning...for one thing, plans should have been made BEFORE the movie ever came out (I'm talking potential plans for each potential movie like this), and green lit to go ahead with part or all of the plans depending on movie reception, ASAP (hell it almost would be done by now). Another thing is trying to pigeon-hole a new attraction into an existing space is horribly inefficient, the attraction should dictate the building size/shape. Yet another thing, taking down a popular attraction for months (years) to simply replace with a (potentially) more popular attraction is an unnecessary interruption and will create tremendous ill-will with guests, when they'd be better off building a new appropriate attraction building (an in-door ice-land featuring a Frozen attraction?) in the large empty space between Mexico and Norway where they could construct out of the public view (no time wasted constructing/maintaining construction walls, not to mention the time saved not DEstructing the old attraction and gutting the building to then pigeonhole in the new way-too-short-I'm-sure attraction). Then on opening day simply open the gate (where the old Viking Longboat stood), and let the crowds in. A whole new attraction/land with plenty of room for a meet and greet, a top attraction, and an ice-land to steal the crowds from the nearby ICE at Gaylord Palms during the holidays. And if someday Frozen isn't enough to bring in the crowds, then THAT area could be converted into a new (cold) country at Epcot (like Switzerland...or Iceland).
And I imagine that this area could open in stages like NFL did, where the (much needed) meet and greet could open, while they continue work on the state-of-the-art top-of-the-line super-mucho attraction is being build...the attraction with the beautifully slow dark ride and music tell the story, with a frantic bobsled ride to the end.

Was considering travelling to WDW this winter along with a trip to see my aunt in St. Augustine for her birthday...WDW now out of the equation. There's too much I can't stand to continue handing them my family's wallet. Perhaps a short trip to UNI, but mostly saving up for a nice trip to DL next summer.

I'll take one for the team and be the guy who asks:

When is Maelstrom closing?
When is the Frozen ride expected to open?

I don't have time to look through the 288 pages of the other thread.

And I'll be the person entering into the conversation 25 pages too late. Come on guys, I checked the forums at lunchtime! I need a wdw assistant.

So... Maelstrom is being replaced? Do tell...

Don't take much for them to name an animal after a character. Next thing we know though, they'll dub in some extra audio to KS and it'll become Frozen's Wild Safari...
