Disney Channel - Loss of that Disney Flavor

Has anyone noticed that the Disney Channel seems to be losing its Disney flavor? There seems to be a continuing dilution of the "pure" Disney programming and airing non-Disney programming.

We became Disney Channel subscribers in 1988 when it was a fledgling channel and living in the country, we got it via satellite. At that time it was pure Disney and had a lot of park-related shows and information. Now it hardly has any park information and is packed with non-Disney stuff.

I realize that it is possible that they could be running low on pure Disney programming but it seems a shame that the Disney flavor and spirit seems to be eroding away.

Yeah, I wish that they would have more about the parks. I LOVED Disney Inside Out. What ever happened to that. The shows on now are cool, and I like them, but it's all kid related.....:(

I started a website last year called "Bring Back Disney World - Inside Out". It was very popular and I received a few messages from fans. It was an information page on how to contact the Disney Channel and complain about the programming. Here are the details:

Disney Channel E-Mail
http://disney.go.com/mail/disneychannel/index.html

Disney Channel Mailing Address
Disney Channel
ATTN: Programming
3800 West Alameda Avenue
Burbank, CA 91505

Disney Channel Phone Number

The above info was correct as of August 2000. Drop them a message and let them know you want this changed. Good Luck!!

Those stupid zoogs are the worst thing to happen to the Disney channel. Disney channel used to be great. Ever since it became a regular channel (u don't have to pay extra) they turned it in to Nickelodeon competition. The only good thing about the DC is Vault Disney. And a few months ago they scaled the hours back by 2 HOURS!!! But if you look at their website it hasn't changed. And I wrote a long email to the Disney Channel and all I got was a pretyped response. And after I started saying that I would like a human response not a computer I jsut got the smae thing. I was so mad!!!!

But i guess they say persistance pays off, so I'll keep trying.

I used to live in California and my grandparents had one of those illegal cable boxes so we got to watch Disney Channel when it was a pay network. I used to love that show Inside Out. That has to be the best show ever in the history of Television. That show singlehandedly made me want to be an imagineer. The closest thing that comes to that is the short Imagineer That! segments on the Disney Channel today. That would be so much better if it were a 30 minute show. I say we start a petition to bring back Inside Out. Also, If you know anybody with tapes of the show, e-mail me.

Our days of subscribing to the Disney Channel are numbered. My 11 year old hardly watches it....prefers TV Land and loves the Black & White comedies from the 50s and 60s.

...Vault Disney is stuck in the early morning hours....the original Mickey Mouse Club, Zorro or Spin and Marty etc. ....NEVER or hardly ever to be seen by young eyes.

...All the CLASSIC Disney Cartoons disappeared from the Disney Channel and now appear on Toon Disney which our cable system doesn't carry....The Disney Channel now seems to concentrate on "Sesame Street" type programming or 'teen problems' especially in the after school hours...

Inside Out was a 30/60 minute commerical for Disney World. That's why I don't understand why they would cancel the show. They could have the show on Sunday Evening's on ABC's Wonderful World of Disney...on Saturday or Sunday mornings.

With park attendence down, hotal attendence down and a year long celebration...Disney would be stupid not to promote this on their own network weekly. I just don't understand this.

I think everyone on this forum should work for Disney and not the clowns running the show!!

Also, except for "Movie Surfers", there are very few shows that show movies or videos that are being released. A "making of" or "behind the scenes" show would be interesting for us and a good commercial for the movie. This would also work for new attractions or shows at the parks. I don't think there was very much programming dedicated to California Adventure when it opened. Maybe live coverage of these events (like the 100 yrs dedication at WDW) or even just a highlights show would catch peoples interest and help boost attendance.

I agree - I that all the decent shows come on after midnight. That Zoog crap has to go. I was hoping that when they aquired the Family Channel (ABC Family) that all the Zoog stuff would move there - yet that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.

It just es me off that Disney has all those great movies, and they have to play 'Alley Cats Strike Back' or 'The Lawrence Brothers in (insert any title here)' or 'Boy Meets World' (they must play this on an endless loop).

Thank God I have Toon Disney.

On the same topic - this is the same thing that is happening with Disney videos/DVDs. Why aren't they releasing the good movies? I mean, every once in awhile we get a nice nibble - but what about Lion King or Alladin? Instead there is the weekly release of some crappy, B-team Zoog movie. Which is kind of funny considering that movie will probably be on every week anyway.

I agree! My 18 year old watched Disney all the time when it was "pay." Lots of classic movies, shows, and cartoons. I assume that it's still on, but I honestly can't tell the difference between it ,Family Channel, and Nick....nothing distinctly Disney about it anymore!

My kids fluctuate between the Disney Channels and Nik, I dont recall there ever being a programme that plugs the parks despite it still being a pay channell. They did 5 min adverts during the Milenium celebration showing Epcot but that s it.
the worst thing is not the dreadfull toons but some of the presenters. Theres one in particular that needs some career guidance from the tip of my size 10s. talk about in youre face!!

Blah. I can't stand Disney or Nickelodeon anymore. They're both so lame. I used to love watching The Mickey Mouse Club and the cartoons, But now its just Pre-Teen b.s. (I.e. Bug Juice) Have you seen that?! Some sort of "Salute Your Shorts" ripoff. :hurl:

I wrote the Disney channel an email expressing our concerns like I have done numerous times in the past. But odds are I'll get the usual "Your opinions are important to us and have been forwarded to the right area. Thank You for contacting The Disney Channel. (Then the best part comes. After I sit and complain about the channel...just read this next sentence). We hope you continue to enjoy our current Television Block. Now can someone tell me why I would write a long email saying I hate the channel now, if I enjoyed the programming. And the department they are forwarding the response to is the computers recycling basket. If I get any different response this time I'll post it.

After watching some old footage we took at WDW in 1996 of the Disney Afternoon show in Mickey's Starland, I realized how much I missed Goof Troop and Talespins. I too am disappointed that the Disney Channel doesn't showcase more of WDW and Disneyland. If I were a TV reporter interviewing the head of programming I would ask these questions:
1. Why do you NOT show Disney cartoons in the PM?
2. Why are the cartoons shown in the morning always geared for pre-schoolers?
3. Why no Disney Inside/Out?
4. Do you realize how many people loved the aforementioned show?
5. Why do you NOT showcase your parks?

anybody care to add.................

Why do you show the classic Disney shows for five hours a day when no one is able to watch them?

If you have to play your best shows (vault disney) so late, then why do you play shows like So Weird at Midnight instead of them?

How many kids do you know that asked you to put so weird on at midnight and pooh on a 5 am? Do you stay up at night and wake up early just to watch these shows?

Who was the drunk who created the Zoogs, and does he still have a job?

What were u guys thinking?

I agree that the Zoogs don't even rate as mindless humor. What a waste of cartooning/video graphic talent. Another excellent example of the continuing deterioration of the Disney Channel.

The slapstick comedy of the Three Stooges (circa 1930's) had the "stuff" which enabled their antics to become enduring classics. Zoogs are an insult to anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence.

Disney believes kids have no intelligence.
