Disney Channel - Loss of that Disney Flavor

Yeah, I think that the current staff should look seriously over the content of the old MMC and WWD. Those shows were landmarks for a reason: because they treated kids with respect, and weren't just "silly kid stuff." You learned about interesting places, watched a few cartoons, learned some songs, watched a kid-friendly yet intelligent serial (like Spin & Marty), and maybe came away with a morale. Still a great formula, I think.

Truly something "the whole family" could at least feel comfortable with. But its best quality was treating children with respect.

And by the way, Walt often showcased Disneyland in the background. Still a great idea!

Exactly they were shows kids watched and liked but it taught them something and didn't make them look like they have IQ's of 2. But society well is different today, and that is something even Disney can not change. If Disney was to put on those GOOD shows again then they would see a drop in programming.

I know with myself, I don't care for obviously the zoogs, but also the interuptions of the shows to show music videos. I can understand promoting upcoming shows but these zoogs and the music vidoes are just a way to fill gaps. I remember back when it was pay they would show cartoons to fill gaps.

I think all of the discussions on this board, including the comments from parents who say that their kids watch TVLand and other networks now, demonstrate that you are wrong on this. I do not mean any disrespect, but I believe it is this type of short-selling the audiences today that is the problem. Everybody seems to think everyone else is less interested in quality than they themselves are.

Smart, intelligent family shows or movies are what everyone on this board remembers, and that is for a reason!!! Because they liked it. Kids ALWAYS will remember and love (and share with their own kids) the shows and movies that meant something to them, and it will almost always be a something that doesn't talk down to them. (Just look at the renewed success of Star Wars and E.T. -- both "family" films that were also "smart" and well-made. E.T. especially was just what Disney used to do: a film that took kids seriously but was fun for everyone.)

Good shows matter, and always have more significance in the long run.

P.S.: I agree about Inside/Out, too. I said before on this forum that I don't know why more shows of many types are not done live (or on tape) from the parks. It is an obvious way to "preview" the parks while doing a show!

Anybosy have Toon Disney?

I got digital cable a few weeks ago, and the sad thing is with all those channels, I stay on this one the most. It's basically Cartoon Network, only with Disney cartoons. They play all the old Disney afternoon shows every day and have 'specialty blocks' like 'Hanging with the Heroes', some Villians collection, and a princesses one. Also, every once in awhile they show a Disney movie- like last week they showed Bugs Life.

It's pretty much the OLD Disney Channel, they even have the old logo with Steamboat Willie.

But, as much as I dislike the new Disney Channel - I'll admit that I really like 'Even Stevens'. I just wish they would stop showing 'Boy Meets World' every other half hour.
