I don’t understand why this is so controversial. People go to DW to escape from reality, why wouldn’t they go to the Disney meta verse for the same thing?

This could also be a really effective way to extend the park experience well outside the park’s boundaries. Imagine being able to go and enjoy more fireworks, or explore the Haunted Mansion’s rooms on your own. See the end result of the future Epcot and Animal Kingdom strive to show you, or step into the world of Epic Mickey/Runaway Railway again!
I believe they did this with an Xbox game. Disney has so many versions of virtual Disneyland that this CAN’T be something they charge 200 bucks a month for. It just… I suppose the integration into the real world is the mystery element.

Also, I remember waiting over an hour (back when that was a long time in Disney parks) to do this in Inventions:

The amazing game involved trying to carry an egg from one place to another while shooting the eggs out of other players hands and trying to not let them shoot yours out. 🙄
The other problematic one was The Void of course..If Disneyquest was still around they could have easily placed it in the former section where Ride The Comix were when they removed it..Rather it being a new place to put it.

Never got to try that.

I understand why DisneyQuest didn't work out based on problems with the original business model (though I think they could have plopped one in a shopping district in each of their resorts worldwide and gotten the income to make keeping it fresh work*) but it was so sad to see that place go from amazing and cutting edge to dated and unloved.

Anyway, I bet they wish they'd revamped that concept rather than doing what they went with, in hindsight. They probably could have done new things à la carte and up-sold enough to bring tears to Bob's eyes on the inside.

*although by the time there were enough of them, I suppose it was too late.

I found the Facebook ad rather sad. Metaverse is for the "I never developed life after high-school " mentality.

Metaverse is for those that failed to launch

You do realise that the word 'metaverse' is cat nip for investors right? You also know that no one knows what the metaverse is?
The "metaverse" is the next method companies will use to saturate you with ads, as well as being a potent source of misinformation. Basically, an unreformed VR version of Facebook that gives you a headache after 30 minutes.

Give it 10 years, maybe a little longer and this will be the predominant method of using the internet and social media. I'm sort of surprised how resistant people are to this. I fully expect the generation after zoomers to conduct much of their social lives/commerce and possibly work within the metaverse.

I doubt it, this looks like it engages all your senses shutting out the real world. I want to be free to bounce from one thing to another without having to do something first or even to do a few things at once. It could be done in this space but why take mundane things and complicate them? For the sake of entertainment? I'm not that needy

So Disney attractions are going to be slowly replaced by virtual reality experiences?

That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard.

I don't go to Disney World to put on a headset and "explore" a computer-generated landscape. That would suck all the fun out of going to the Magic Kingdom.

In the Parks
Yes
But would you pay to visit the Adventurers club virtually with other ppl? Or Mannequins? Or the original JII? Mr toads wild ride?
I am pretty darn sure I’d throw my money to put on a headset and feel like I’m at mannequins again

I really have no idea how this is gonna play out so I’m neutral on it. The community building thing on the other hand…total disaster
