....by that description, it sounds so much like the local attractions here in Pittsburgh. Our Children's Museum and the National Aviary boasts educational programs daily, with tour guides, and chances to have pictures taken with animals.

I... ok. I'll just stop there. Hope everyone who goes enjoys their day, and that Earth Day cupcake.

Are these things busy? Do lots of people show up at 8:30 a.m. to see these things (and get free cupcakes, lol)?

Honestly, as an anniversary celebration for a major theme park by a large entertainment company, in my not-so-humble opinion, these plans are pitiful. Even aside from the fact this is essentially a merchandise event, like all of these now. Either they didn't allocate/fight for a budget, they're really thinking small or they just don't care. Sad. There's marketing budget. Use it.

Looking at what they're doing...
  • Opening Ceremony - fine (should be Joe/George/Iger, but whatever)
  • Commemorative guide map/postcard - fine, but could be done EVERY Earth Day
  • Special conservation button - should be done EVERY Earth Day
  • Party for the Planet activities - shouldn't this be a daily thing?
  • Guest artists and special merchandise - fine, although shouldn't the talks be at Flower and Garden? Face painting should be a daily thing, along with the portrait. Merchandise - fine
  • Speciality snacks - an "Earth Day cupcake" should be done EVERY Earth Day

Opening ceremony, guest artists, merch and commemorative map are the only things that are out of the ordinary, and they do guest artists and merch pretty regularly anyways. Don't need Iger, but George/Meg and Rohde or one of the WDI guys should be there. Face painting is there all the time. Party for the planet has nothing to do with the anniversary. The cupcake you can purchase is lame. Give everyone who walks through the gates a commemorative something. Don't make them buy it, give it to them. Not just the map. Bring out the animals and the personnel behind the scenes and DO something for the event. Make it something. This isn't even half-@ssed, this is just lazy. Again. I'd prefer the company didn't put a release out for something this minimal - makes them look bad.
