Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

That’s not what “fairest” means in the original, though.
Yet look at the reaction when it was tampered with. (Either way, it’s not a good look.)

I’ve seen many people make the comment: how could SW (Rachel) be more beautiful than the queen? (Gal) (completely missing the point of the story) to which I kindly (ha!) point out the queen is always portrayed as more beautiful and glamorous; SW is a teen.

We've been assured repeatedly that no one at Disney expected Snow White to do well since obviously no one likes that character and they were just greenlighting everything in a frenzy. So it shouldn't affect any of their plans, they knew it would happen.
But many posters on here assured us there was nothing for these production-level folks to worry about.

Bring the receipts, you’ll find the only regulars who took these positions were being flippant.

Found a chart…

VOD is a fraction of what DVD and Bluray used to bring in but streaming is raking in the money.

Now this one several posters did in fact assure us wouldn’t occur. I’m on the record as saying we’re just a couple of years from streaming profit at Disney fully replacing what linear brought in.

I think to be fully fair we’d need to see a linear curve on this chart as well, since it’s really several markets streaming replaces.

I don't know how its going to do at the box office this weekend, but Minecraft is being absolutely obliterated by critics, currently sitting at 49% RT score.

I saw it last night, and while it had its moments it was dumb overall. And from what I understand, never played the game myself, other than some easter eggs its lacking on the actual lore from the game. So that may turn off some fans of the game.

If the story is a good story, it will work, and Bambi will be more popular.
I just hope they keep the hunters off screen like in the original. That's what made them so menacing.
Let the dread buildup through the animals reactions and the music. The theme that's played in the original when hunters are near is one of the most haunting, brilliant pieces of suspense that no visuals could compare to, imo.

The trailers of this movie do nothing for me…. It looks awful in my head….i have no plans on ever seeing Minecraft… perhaps not even on a streaming service…however I have never played the game… so perhaps I am missing something…. Looks like a Jumanji ripoff to me

I have no interest in this either, I also never played the game though… makes me wonder if the ceiling will be limited since its appeal is likely to those who played the game.

The opening week predictions look good though, $70m domestic and $160m worldwide, that’ll be the best box office in weeks.

The one question mark for me is the amount of kids begging their parents to head to the theater…. In recent weeks I have seen quite a few excited for this at my local theater when they spot the display…. More so then any other family film

I am not sure about repeat viewing however…. I can see once being enough for most parents

This is my kids. They had no interest in Disney's recent offerings (Moana 3, Mufasa, Snow White), but they've been very excited for Sonic 3, Dogman, and now Minecraft.

I've played more Minecraft than I care to admit with my kids. I thought the movie doesn't look very good. Your right, the appeal is with people who have played it. That said, it sold some 300mil plus copies. So like Mario, you don't really need anyone else but the people who play. I'm really curious how this one goes. My son and his friends (highschool) are going because they love the game and they think it's going to be a so bad it's good type of things.

Super Mario had the benefit of generations( since the 80’s) growing up with the character

Domestic box office is out for Thursday, showing the two new movies in Preview and how that's going to affect this weekend's box office for Snow White.

Snow White
was still in 4,200 theaters nationwide yesterday. Why?!? There's got to be a contractual obligation that Disney has with the theater chains, and that must make the theater chains furious when it's a bomb like Snow White.

An Easter movie about The Last Supper from that small Christian studio did more than double the Per Theater business that Snow White did, but there she sits hogging 4,200 mostly empty theaters from coast to coast. Very odd. Will Minecraft steal some of those theaters from her this weekend. It seems appropriate to do so.

I sell a ton of the Minecraft video game soundtracks on vinyl on a regular basis. That’s all I know about the IP. 😬

I know one of my young employees is seeing it today on his day off. He also saw Mufasa, but could not get past the singing lions lol.

Speaking of which, that particular lion is finally just about gone down here. I see only a couple of theaters in Miami with a couple of daytime showings each. Nothing in my county. Just pull it, already.

A friend invited me to see “Something Rotten” in a local theatre tonight. I protested. He advised me to watch a video of one particular song. I did. I said, “That one video will hold me over until wicked part two.” 😉😆

My kids never played, neither have we, we are still going Sunday. It looks fun and funny. Aka a family movie
