Nostalgia Critic had a great video recently in response to Snow White about how Disney has an emotional storytelling problem. I think he's spot on with snow white and wizard of oz... and I get what he's saying about Where the wild things are though i think there are much better examples-
One thing that has irked me in recent years that is the same concept is music in most recent films is sorely lacking. Watching older films, the music and audio cues were part of the presentation. These days the music is disjointed and an afterthought that i find hurts scenes more often than helps.
