Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

Maybe there’s a typo here, but she’s Jewish too—as most Israelis are. And if you mean she’s not religious (I don’t know one way or the other), one doesn’t have to be in order to be Jewish—it’s an ethnicity as well as a religion.

You missed it.

The state of Israeli is not a religious cult. It’s a modern, controversial second tier power that operates on a zealot like agenda that focuses on self preservation…with very good reason.

But those two groups are very different. My neighbor is Jewish…she’s not Israeli. With mandatory unisex military service and universal political engagement.

So it defangs “the hate network” myth for this one
Not really. It’s true that a great deal of over-the-top outrage has been whipped up around Zegler—witness this very forum—and it was already at boiling point long before her political statements. That didn’t just happen organically; whether you call it a hate network or not, certain influential voices generated and fed the frenzy.

It can also be true—as I believe it is—that all this over-the-top outrage is not an especially significant factor in the film’s failure.

I didn’t even realize Mufasa was on D+ already, I’ll have to go check it out.

It pains me to say this since Moana is one of my all time favorite Disney movies but I haven’t even finished Moana 2 yet, I’ve tried several times over the last couple weeks but I just can’t get into it, it kind of gives me 90s straight to video vibes.
I haven’t even seen the first Moana yet.

After enjoying her Epcot attraction, I thought we might get around to it, but we are so behind on our TV watching that we just watched the Halloween and Christmas episodes of “Elsbeth” in the last week or so. My DVR runneth over!

Mufasa just joined the lineup in the last few days.

I saw the first lion king in the late 90’s, but had no great attachment, and didn’t bother with the live action. I may watch just for the sake of continuity since there will presumably be another.

The “renaissance” took place when I was a teenager-early 20’s and “too grown up.”

Don’t think it can be discussed here, but a quick google should help.

As someone who spends more time on sites like FB and Instagram, I’ll tell you what I tell the folks who doubt racism: the proof is in the posting. Every Disney post about this film has about 20-35% support and positive reviews, about 10-15% general “woke Disney” comments, about 35-40% anti-Rachel comments for all the different reasons, and about 15-20% anti-Gadot comments (not including the ones about her acting) which have ramped up since the film was released and she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
I don’t take online posts (including whatever we say here) to be representative of what ordinary people out there in the real world think. Most people I know have no idea about any of these supposed controversies.

Yeah really…because it’s blamed for everytime the overlord corp bombs a movie.

You gotta blame yourself…not me…because it’s been used so much the last 4 years it’s the boy that cried wolf.

The Majority of these movies just suck. Abe would not do well with or without Twitter and the lame Disney fanboy podcasts

Elemental is the one and only movie I can think of that got hit by “the network”…and it still worked out

Since we’re back to people saying the hate network isn’t a thing let me get ahead of this and say that no one is accusing the posters on this forum of being part of it.
I don’t think anyone here is especially influential, but a few posters have absolutely contributed (sometimes knowingly and repeatedly) to all the pot-stirring and spread of disinformation.

That’s a fair point of view, but I think Facebook is “out there“ and more closely represents the general population than this site does.

To be sure, you will see some posts asking, “Why are they giving Rachel so much trouble?”

And then they find out!

We who treat the movie fairly are far outnumbered.

The first Moana is a good, standard Disney Princess flick

The kind that should make a billion without a sweat

Except for “Shiny”…that’s weird and stupid

You said Gadot is Israeli but not Jewish, which was factually incorrect. I merely corrected your error. None of what you wrote here has any bearing on my correction.

Ordinary people are the battle that Disney wins…when they are doing well. They certainly are not.

Everyday they don’t replace near all the studio management is corporate malfeasance

Are you in Wisconsin? I can’t operate in a literal world without engagement in nuance.

Are you claiming there is really any similarities between someone who grew up in Israeli and someone who grew up in a Chicago suburb with a Christmas tree?

You can’t be serious.

Most of my ancestry is from Scotland
…but I’m not them. I don’t run around in a kilt with war paint oh my face…

…well…rarely…only when I’m “sassy”

About 15 minutes into Mufasa and this feels very “straight to video” also, combined with a tech conference presentation that shows off all the cool new things that we can do with CG. It’s early but I’m enjoying it more than Moana2 so far. the bruthaaa song. lol.

The people on this site who have been doing that strike me as people who have been watching a lot of it and have been convinced of inaccurate information as a result or people the birdman would call parrots. The above is not intended to be an insult to anyone.

I have no idea what you’re trying to say (you seem not to have understood me), and I don’t think anything stands to be gained by continuing this.

lol…nothing any of us says here means anything. It’s a couple dozen people kicking the ball around

Stop doubling down on the hate network. You are being disrespectful to strangers every time you try to slip it in.

You don’t know me or what I believe or who I support. You don’t know “others” such as a TP or Erasure. How arrogant.

Bad movies don’t sell tickets. Since the beginning of time. For every Shawshank that slipped through the cracks…there are 2,000 that get exactly what they earned. You need to go with Occam’s razor
