I don’t agree. I am a huge Disney fan and have no idea what any of these actors is saying except when it gets reported here in the forum. I have about as much interest in their personal lives or opinions as I do those of the park CMs.
So if you managed an investment firm you wouldn’t care what your employees said on social ?

You don’t but man the internet sure does. People make a living on what celebrities say and do.
When I scroll for baseball news on X it’s everywhere.. always someone in the spot light. Blake lively the latest.
I find it very easy to skip stories I have no interest in. Celebrity news is a big industry, and I used to be into it in my younger years, but I have very little time for it now.

Also, if Gina Carano could act at all she’d have weathered her controversy more easily.

Carano got an ABSURD amount of breaks. One of cinemas foremost auteurs fashioned a star vehicle around her and surrounded her with some of the greatest character actors in Hollywood when she had no acting experience. She made a choice to throw that away by not apologizing.

I’d be happy hurling all social media into the sun
100% agree

but it’s not a practical suggestion for an industry driven by fame.
Agree, especially in a country founded on free speech, I loathe social media, loathe cancel culture even more, but the upside of free speech is countered with the downside of consequences.

I just wish it was applied more evenly, which is impossible since the people making the decisions, or writing the AI, are humans and biased.

I work at Taco Bell. Should everything I post on here represent Taco Bell? Or should it be considered an entirely separate part of my life?
It’s not close to comparable. If you work at Taco Bell you are not known by millions of people.

You can say whatever you want and people will still buy tacos.

It’s very easy to skip a movie because the actress has wished you harm.

I didn’t say that. I wouldn’t try to control what they said on their own personal profiles, but if one of them posted something inflammatory or offensive, I would expect them to face the appropriate consequences.
So if someone posted something inflammatory costing you let’s say 100 million, you would be fine with that as long as they said sorry?

Who knows how much Zeglers comments cost this film but it’s more than the change you will find in your couch.

If I was a public figure getting payed millions to sell movie tickets you can bet your behind I wouldn’t make the mistake she did.

This is basic stuff you learn when you are young. Never talk religion or politics.

It’s just selfish and petty of her to do so.
Except we have many many many examples of adults twice her age making gaffs just as bad if not worse.

Also I’m glad you think you’d be perfect however I guarantee even a public figure version of yourself is not, no offense, because no one is which is the point.

This is not even the same thing.

It should be noted that actors no longer are “employees” in the traditional sense. They are basically “contractors” at this point. They are contracted for a role or period of time (such as for a number of episodes on a show) and that’s it. They are their own company, they are their own brand, which is why Studios bring them onto projects. But they aren’t regular “employees” like your investment banker example.

So while their contract might entail a clause about do’s and don’ts, they aren’t servants to only the “company”, they have their own lives and their own brand that they attend to that is separate from the “company”.

The same thing is happening right now with Potter.

Celebrities know what going to happen if they take a role like this.

Snape is very clearly described in the books many times.

Not to mention that Harry doesn’t trust him just because of how he looks.

How does that sound now?

Hey look a black professor, I certainly don’t trust him!
Does the Snape character have any inherent attributes other than the visual descriptions in the books that suggest he must be white? Why would you assume that race would have anything to do with Harry’s distrust? Did Harry distrust Snape because he was white?
When you are actively involved in a project everything you say and do represents Disney.
Do Zegler’s comments also represent Netflix and A24 whose projects she was also actively involved in?

Zegler apologized for the insensitive comments, which were made after she was cast and the production had already wrapped filming. I don’t know what you expect Disney to do.
So if someone posted something inflammatory costing you let’s say 100 million, you would be fine with that as long as they said sorry?
Why would you think Disney is “fine” with what happened? If you were a businessperson at Disney, what would you do about this situation?

Why are you asking such questions? Obviously I wouldn’t be “fine” with such a situation. But neither would I advocate preemptively policing people’s use of social media. Most of us are trusted by our employers to conduct ourselves appropriately in public settings, including online. We are under no restrictions except those we place on ourselves. If we fail to behave appropriately within these parameters, then we have to face the consequences.

Btw, this whole conversation is the exact reason the Snow White thread got shutdown. It’s starting to feel a bit heated here, so maybe it’s best to move away from this and just go back to talking directly about the Box Office and not the specifics of the incidents.

Yeah that’s the whole reason I bought up the looney tunes movie in the first place. To try and spark a different conversation.

it’s kind of hard not to talk about, it’s what everyone is talking about when thinking about this movie. Type in Snow White on your phone. Words like Controversy, Divisive describe the film.
It’s fascinating, I still think the movie will define itself once released and if the acting, music, film is good the movie should make 600 million.
