Since theatres have reopened, I've kept an eye on the Thursday previews for the theatre closest to me, this is the most crowded I've seen it, especially for a 3:40 pm showing.
It's funny we use that a gauge but it really don't mean much since every location is radically different. Why not look at the prime 8pm showing? I've found that is usually more crowded. I don't think presales are much of an indication since everyone knows the theaters are empty. It's like you need to look the theater ten minutes before showtime.

It was still considered a reboot, even if they tried to explain it away with Spock and the "timelines".

That aside, the point still remains that even though the MCU has included the multiverse with for example the multiple variants (reboots) of Spider-Man, the MCU itself has never done a reboot or remake unto itself yet. This is the distinction that is being lost here. Its still one long continuous continuity.

If for example in the future they redo Iron Man with someone other than RDJ that isn't part of the same continuity, which they may, that would be a reboot.

Anyone else amazed Alan Bergman hasn't been fired. He literally oversees everyone of Disney's now failing studios. It's his job.

I'd argue him and Iger need to be fired. But as long as the board is Iger's buddies I guess nothing will happen.

Does Bob have the common sense to make changes to turn things around, so far he just seems to be sitting there and letting the company continue to fail.

Iger does not see the studios as failing, just the opposite.

But I think the big take away is you are not seeing the outrage with Barbie the same way you are with every Disney movie… which I think would be different if it was produced by Disney… says something about this so called “Culture War”

Barbie is rated PG-13 and its marketing has clearly been aimed at teens to Boomers who grew out of their Barbie phase years or decades ago.

Barbie is not a PG rated family movie (Disney hasn't released a G rated movie in 15 years, and PG is the new G) branded as Walt Disney Animation.

That's the big difference, and why almost no one (including myself) cares that Barbie may have sexual double entendre' or gay characters or adult themes. Barbie is not being marketed to small children, it is being marketed to teenagers and adults. And I can't wait to see it. 😍

And yes, the marketing for Barbie has been top-notch, slam-dunk brilliant. Disney could learn a few things from that.

Speaking of Barbie, here's where the summer box office now stands for yesterday for Disney's 3 summer tent poles.

Because as of this evening the entire box office is going to be run over by Barbie in her pink Corvette, before Ken backs up the Barbie Dream Motorhome over the remains left in the street. :hungover:

Indy 5 is still losing double digit percentages week over week, Elemental is doing only slightly less business well past the one month mark which helps but won't get it to profitability, and Mermaid has passed her Sell By date in the fresh fish case.

Trigger Warning: Do not pay attention to the movie ranked at the top here, because the box office figures for Mission: Impossible are delayed today for some reason and I'm sure M:I will still be #1 and the naughty movie we don't talk about will only be #2.

Were they simultaneously offering a discount for bad seats?

I don't see this as a big deal. Almost every seated event such as sports or concerts has tiered pricing.

Locally, Landmark has one row allocated as premium and I haven't heard any backlash.

I think we are at a point now in theatres, if you are going to charge more for ideal seats, and less for bad seats, people will just avoid coming.

The only seats that cost more up here with Cineplex is if you choose a D-box seat. Other than that, all other seats are priced the same.

This one is making me laugh, gang...

They finally got all the numbers in late today, and I think I figured out why the box office numbers for yesterday were so delayed this afternoon. Because Paramount was terrified that the #2 movie that we don't talk about without a Trigger Warning almost beat Mission: Impossible??? Paramount execs must have had to send summer interns into the theaters to scrounge up loose change in the seats to get that extra $18,000 needed to make sure M: I was still number one. 🤣

Look at the top 3 movies including Indy 5. The stark differences in Per Theater and Theater Counts and Daily Box Office stats are interesting and very telling here. With Barbie on the way, and Oppenheimer taking what's left of Indy 5's older demographic, I don't know how Indy 5 even survives in the Top 5 by this Sunday. Bleak.

The point people are making isn’t that Barbie has adult themes, but that it includes content that, coming from Disney, would be decried as offputtingly woke. In other words, people are pointing out a double standard.

I don't love the practice, but I'm surprised how universally critical the public sentiment was.

I guess it was the idea of a surcharge, where a discount would have been more acceptable. Theaters charge less for sub-optimal viewing times. A matinee is often cheaper than a weekend evening. No one seems to bat an eye at that variable pricing.

If you're going to quote a Disney attraction on a Disney Parks fan board at least quote it right...

Its "Oh... ha ha, I'm sorry, I forgot... we're drinking root beer now!"

I was not. Although yeah it does kind of come from the Carousel of Progress with a few tweaks. Funny.
I was referring to the creation of root beer originally being called root tea, but root beer was marketed as the name we know because the audience of coal miners took to it better.

Like nerds and multiverse vs reboot. It gives Disney liscense to constantly evolve and reboot these characters with new cast, storylines etc...

But now that you mention the CoP quote...it just shows that these are in fact reboots with new names. But if it makes you feel better, toss. Princess Bride quote of not knowing what a word means or try and Disney diss me I guess.

I think the issue comes in that you are trying to lump all Marvel movies since the beginning together instead of looking at the MCU as separate from them.
