Disney (and others) at the Box Office - Current State of Affairs

This will be a flop for the ages.

It's the worst cinemascore of any super hero film ever. Fantastic 4, Morbius, Lady Webb, etc etc. Those were all C grades.

I'm certain it's not actually that bad. But they tricked Snyder fanboys into a jukebox musical and paid the price.

I'm really curious to watch the stunning drop off that this type of CineamaScore predicts.

Very interesting collapse of Joker. It really wasn’t that long ago we weren’t certain what would be the bigger R rated movie of the year!

WB is having a very uneven year.
This movie pretty much sums up the problems with all entertainment companies. What was the goal with this film? Who was it made for? This outcome was never really a mystery, at least once it came out that the musical aspect of the film "was an essential part of the film". Did they think big comic book fans would like it, musical fans? Who sat down and said you know what would be cool, making the joker a musical. Worse yet, who actually approved it.

It was likely approved by Zaslav himself in 2022 after he bought WB and needed to make cash, trying to capitalize on the recent Billion dollar movie. Notice how Hamada left just shortly after, he didn't even want the first Joker as it took the character away from its origins.

It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't like the first film and took the character even further away from what makes Joker Joker. I won't spoil it, but the ending tries to be, in my opinion, a homage to Ledger's Joker but even that in my opinion ruins the origins of that portrayal.

I have a feeling that there is a cut of this film that is better than what was released (as is often the case), so hopefully one day we'll get to see the directors cut.

Yeah so for all the griping about the current state of the MCU, at least its way better off than what is happening over at DC.

If I'm Feige I'm thanking my lucky stars that the MCU is still looking golden right now.

Joker 2 actually didn't do too bad on Friday, and it may make $50M for the weekend, but with the CinemaScores it certainly won't make much beyond that, it'll be hard-pressed to hit $100M domestic.

Also DP&W dropped almost 50% for its Friday, its really coming to the end of its stellar run.

It’ll still pass Barbie domestically before it hits Disney+, especially since by the end of this weekend, it’ll still be ahead of Barbie by close to $1M.

I was a bit worried about seeing Joker… after hearing the reactions to the film…. I did not know what else to see this weekend… as I had seen everything else and I am not interested in Megalopolis… I was actually thinking too bad Saturday Night is opening next weekend… as that is one of the rare weekends we do not have time for a movie and that is one of my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year… but we went to see Joker….

My Wife and I actually disagreed with many of the critics… it was not one of the best movies of the year or anything and it does not hold a candle to the first one… but we both liked it…. I can see how some fans of the character or the original movie are upset… but I am someone who looks at each film as it’s own piece of art… nor do I care about comics lore…. I just want good movies…. And this film is not as awful as some are making it seem… plus I will always applaud filmmakers who make bold moves… even if those moves don’t fully land

Its not bad on its own as a standalone, but when compared to the first one (or even to the rest of DC catalog) its just not good.

Some of the musical numbers were actual good, but just not for this content and these characters. If they had removed all the DC from it and had it as its own thing this would have been a good movie as its sort of a compelling story. But its just sad to see what they decided to do with this cut of the movie. My only hope is there was actually a good movie in the original cut and we get to see it one day.

That is how I view movies..,. I tend to not compare it to anything else.,.. it’s why I don’t understand those who complain about Star Wars or Marvel shows that don’t end up how they imagine… those people are not the creator…. They probably should have left Joker as its own stand alone movie… but there is no way the Studio would let that stand in this day and age… after a billion dollars and awards…. With or without Todd Phillips the studio would of found a way to do a sequel

I had mixed feelings about the Joker sequel, but I don't think it's a crime against cinema. I think what angers people is that it goes out of its way to be anti-fan service and deliberately provokes the first movie's die-hard fans. The ending will be maddening for those wanting a proper Joker vs Batman showdown at some point.

I like musicals usually, but 80% of the musical sequences in the Joker sequel were completely superfluous and stopped the movie dead in its tracks. Lady Gaga was good, but her version of Harley was only a supporting role. The marketing made her seem like a co-lead.

Only for those that wanted a Arthur Fleck vs Batman showdown, which I can't imagine would be very many. The rest, and this is all I'll say as to limit spoilers, I think will be happy how the scene played out as an homage.
