Couple more shrimp and Wish could have itself a cocktail.

Not that its going to improve greatly, but Wish is releasing in several major international markets this weekend namely Brazil and South Korea. Both of which did extremely well for Elemental, with the latter bringing in ~$55M.

So won't change much as it still won't breakeven, but it could still bring in between $200-250M when all is said and done, around the same as Encanto.

Disney Says Future Characters Will Be 50% LGBTQ Or Minorities

statement is accurate. Karey Burke, the President of Disney General Entertainment, did express a commitment that 50% of the characters in their future projects would be from LGBTQ or other underrepresented groups. This statement aligns with their broader trend towards greater diversity and inclusion in media representation

Then they will fail…because it doesn’t accurately reflect the paying audience for its content…yet…

The day is coming but they tried to cross the bridge and burn it behind them too soon.

The path to hell is always paved with good intentions. That is the Disney studios mission statement at this point.

Funny how that almost tries to divert attention for a major flop and probably $700 mil below the minimum of what Disney expected in ROI…

It's funny because the "article" has no quotes around what she supposedly said; nor is it represented in the video.

Have any of the people flipping out actually watched the video? (And how much was it edited?)

She was talking about "over at 20th." That's not 20th street, that's 20th Century Fox, which apparently already has more queer characters, just not so many as leads. The only 50% she referenced was "50% of the tears" because she got choked up while speaking.

There is no rational reason to have a problem with anything she said, nor with the bit parts thrown into mere seconds of Disney films representing the reality that there are gay people in this world, whether you like them or not.

Society does have a vested interest in promoting equality to reduce friction; i.e. hate crimes, suicides, etc. Go ahead and dispute that if you can. Anyone. I throw it to the floor.

I dont understand why "no longer straight white Christians" are brought into the conversation. That's lowkey trying to turn it political.
No, it's generalizing so I don't have to list every single type of person. But that's the gist of the list. Coloring outside those lines is what makes people think there is an "agenda." So we can throw around the word agenda but not define it or respond to incorrect assertions about it?

The primary focus of the world in the last 100 years of Disney has been, in fact, straight white christians, notable exceptions in the very, very recent past only. Prove me wrong.

Did I claim anywhere in that post that it would make the movie a success, no I didn't. I was just stating facts, that is all.

But yes we all know that Disney has had a flop year in 2023. Have anything new to add to the conversation?

It’s a terrible thing when a movie people on here were rooting to fail might actually end up making money.
It’s a bad film Buddy. It’s beyond average. The main character’s worst flaw was she cared too much.
You want more of these type films?

Wonka was great, my kids cried at the end.

Why won’t it break even or profit if the budget was $175M to $200M and it ends up bringing in at least $250M? That doesn’t even account for future income.

Not..just tried to divert attention away from the problem: bad movies due to systemic management failure at Disney studios.

That’s the problem. The only one - in fact.

But I gotta give you credit for that diversion/downplay tactic…been at it since Memorial Day. It’s impressive

If we played a game of Risk…undoubtedly It would last about a decade

Remember when days ago you said Migration was tracking the same as Wish?
Domestically Trolls 3 hits 100 million this weekend and Migration already passed Wish.

Encanto while DreamWorks and Illumination passes that domestic marker is so pitiful.
